Mega Thread Nick Daicos - Can he be the GTWEB? Part 2

Collingwood went 2-4 against the prelim teams in 2025.

Geelong went 4-3.

Hawthorn went 1-5.

Brisbane went 7-2.

The Lions were clearly the strongest. Cats an obvious 2nd, then Hawks and Pies the two weaker prelim teams.
That's great but the Cats sure as shit didn't look too strong in their pea-hearted GF effort

Of course you don't.

Because it's yet another metric where Daicos stands head and shoulders above not only every other current player, but every other player in the history of the game.
But Collingwood supporters have spent the last 2-years, and last few weeks in particular, telling us what a joke the award is and how it has no credibility, what with Cripps getting 45 votes and Rowell getting 3-votes for 16-possession games - I've read the Collingwood Brownlow thread...you all think it's a ridiculous joke with no credibility...don't you?

I probably agree, what with Daicos getting votes in a game where he was badly beaten and subbed out in the third quarter.

"Worst top 4 side of the 21st century" 😆

They were going just fine until they met the mighty Pies in the finals

Daics had a blinder along with most of our team

What was Danger's best final in HIS first 4 years? 🤔
As a forward Dangerfield averaged 2 goals and 13.5 disposals in finals over his first 4 seasons.

In his first 7 finals, the 2012 prelim and 2015 semi as a midfielder were better than any Daicos has played so far.

Have they?

He has played forward for about 1 percent of his career lol And defence for 40 to 50 percent
This was more of a reply to the poster that said Martin did nothing in his first 4-years. Other than average 22+ and 1+ across his first 4-seasons....something 1 x player achieved in 2025, and about half a dozen have achieved in any single season in the last 8-years. Martin averaged this across 4 x seasons....his FIRST 4 seasons.

It’s bizarre. I really like Nick Daicos, he seems like a good dude. He’s obviously a terrific player and doesn’t seem to have much of an ego.

But it truly seems like everyone around him, whether it’s fans, his own coach, or even his father - are trying to ruin his rep and make him come across as an absolute flog.

Has there ever been a bigger cry baby in the history of professional sport? Having his coach change the voting system to let him win :tearsofjoy:

bahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahhaha. What an absolute embarassment.

First wanting a reward for second in the Brownlow for little Nick and now this.

What sort of sooky sooky la la club, coach, player and Dad are we dealing with here?

Poor kid.

It's astounding, isn't it?

Daicos has played 4 x finals since his rookie season - all Major Finals (Qualifying, 2 x Preliminary, Grand Final), and in his WORST game - the only game in which he didn't receive coaches votes - he had 27 possessions and the PlAyEr RaTiNgZ algorithm gave him a lazy 26.3.

And he's getting bagged in this thread for his 'lacklustre finals record'.

Oh boy.
Maybe save any finals fanfare for when he's in the best 2 x players on the ground. Maybe final number 8 will be his time.

13.5 disposals and 2 goals average over a full season categories a small forward as borderline elite. So achieving that in finals equates to the same.

Averaging 2 coaches votes per final over 4 years (Daicos) is not really borderline elite. It's solid.
So he played two finals and kicked 4 goals out of 37, hardly elite 😆

Just admit it, Danger is a peasant compared to the royalty of Daics

Wouldn't you use the same parameters to evaluate the final's performance of both - rather than using raw stats for one and coaches votes for another?

Or are you simply using stats to manipulate your conclusion?

Coaches votes not being available in finals until 2016 has a fair bit to do with it. Impressive try though.
Yeah, so then to make a legitimite comparison, you'd use the same stat measures to compare the players. Or you'd use things like listed amongst the best. I'm assuming Nick's finals stats would also be "borderline elite" or actually probably just elite in terms of a midfielders stats (a midfielder - not just a forward pocket). Was your boy listed or reported as being BOG in any of these finals? Was he listed in the team's bests in all his finals?

They played different positions. Their stats were always going to wildly vary. 13.5 disposals and 2 goals for a forward pocket is good going nonetheless.

If you assemble disposals, contested possessions, clearances, inside 50s, goals, goal assists and tackles averages for Daicos' 7 finals I'm happy to take a look. Maybe his 0, 0, 0, 3, 4 (pre-adjustment), 5, 0 entries for coaches votes were "unders".

Just keep in mind that Holmes dominated the stats sheet in the 2025 GF but had a poor game. It happens semi regularly with midfielders - a few with Dangerfield over the years for example. Daicos' 2025 prelim also looks good on paper but he didn't have much impact - especially in the 2nd half.
