I'm pretty happy with Port.

Ashley Hansen at #15 won't show instant results...he's the Pantene of the three. Tall with big hands, and is a hard runner...could play at either end.

Ben Rutten at pick #62 was surprisingly late in the draft for a player to be BOG for SA in 2 state games, and be rated about the 2nd best SA player this year (after Jamar)...built like a brick, he plays a good physical game, and can play fairly tall. I think if Adelaide had had a club recruiter, he wouldn't be at Port now :)

Simon Rosa at #75......he reminds me of Josh Carr back in 1998....was a consistent wingman/midfielder for the Pioneers all season, and was BOG for Vic Country in the losing final.

good effort porthos!!!

Cheers Macca, I'm pretty pleased. Rosa has been my smokey for a while now :)

The Blues have recruited for immdediate results.

Their achilles heel was ear-marked as the key defence posts pre-season especially with the retirement of Silvagni. Trading had bolstered both the attack and the midfield with the addition of multiple options for various positions and it appeared that the defence would be seriously short for height next season. The young defenders previously recruited are going to take some years to mature and an experienced player was seen as the best option short term.

The recruitment of Robran gives the Blues a ready made CHB and additional height to what was looking like an undermanned defence. At 196cm 96kg and with 83 games to his credit Robran will fill the void for the Blues for the next few season whilst the other young talent at the club develops. This allows the Blues to rotate Hotton Livingston Beasy etc as the third tall back option.

With further improvement and maturity from Livingston Sporn Beasy etc and the support of the established stars the Blues backline now looks considerably more powerful.

Waite at 193 cm and 84 kgs was taken under the father son rule. He has the pace and skill to play wing or half forward but is looked at as a future key backman.

Fleming was unlucky to be delisted from the rookie list. He was retained on the original list and later the AFL made a decision post list finalisation that he must be delisted and re-drafted by the club. The club is still querying this decision. Following the AFL'S decision and it's direction the Blues re-drafted Fleming with their last choice.

With Kouta's long term injury the Blues still have 1 vacancy on their senior list which may be filled if necessary by promting a rookie after the pre-season practice matches.

Before I forget, thanks to I luv westcoast for organizing things, and thank to everyone for participating......I think we've got a better idea of what will happen on the 25th now :D

Sure thing, amazon. I've got the list saved.

There is no way known that Richard Cole will last until pick 11. If he does, Noel Judkins will be doing cartwheels across the floor, which will be disappointing, given that there is no TV coverage.

Thanks ILW for doing the picks for us!

Can anyone tell me more on Ashley Watson? I noticed he was the last player to have both All-Australian and AIS/AFL academy credentials but thats about it? Was he worth it at #38? Noticed that sainter wanted to pick him up but at what pick would that have been?

I was very suprised James Kelly was taken so late he will go top 20-30 IMO and I was talking to him the other day and he said Essendon have said he may go with there first pick.;)

Not sure how many of you remember this but we had a "Phantom Draft" here before the real draft. Interesting now that the season has started, to have a look at some of these selections. Have to say Hitman was right on the money when he selected Chris Judd.

My Selections:

11 Richard Cole - Collingwood: We got him with this pick. Returning from injury, but has shown enough at VFL level to say he wont be there long. Gun.

27 Rod Crowe - Collingwood: Went to North about this pick. I would still like him at Collingwood.

43 Mark Seaby - Collingwood: Went much earlier to WCE. Ruckman would be welcome at Pieland.

58 Henry Playfair, Collingwood: Gamble. Forget where he went (St Kilda??) but we got Davidson who is a mile better.

71 Clancy Rudeforth, Collingwood: Don't even remember who he is! Scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point.

I would still want the top 3.

Collingwood Selections:

11 Richard Cole - Collingwood: See above. Lightening fast and great skills. Should have gone top 10 IMO. (Coll: Pick 11)

21 Mark McGough - St Kilda: What can you say. This guy should have gone top 15. Youngest player in draft and in comp, looks like a 50 games. Hard at it midfielder that the Pies need. Star. (Coll: Pick 43)

25 Tom Davidson - Melbourne: Injured. Full Forward that will either be a super-star or will disappear without a trace. (Coll: Pick 27)

57 Tristen Walker - Bulldogs: Pick 74. Has been injured all year and will return to VFL seniors this week. Athletic player who played senior footy at Claremont. (Coll: Pick 74)

NS Dane Swan - Not Selected: BOG in TAC cup grannie, has been injured but came back against Essendon in the VFL and booted three goals. Seems like a tidy player, but is a bit of a gamble. (Coll: Pick 58)

All in all, if the draft was re-done today, I think Collingwood would effectively have:

1 Top Ten Player
1 Top 15 Player
1 Top 30 Player
Two Gambles

Pretty good considering we didn't trade for picks or players!!!

And on Hodge...don't make the mistake of writing him off as the best selection from this draft just yet...he will be an absolute star!

West Aussie player who wrote that letter to interstate clubs saying not to draft him, remember?

Currently on the WC rookie list but is suffering OP like many other young footballers at the moment.

Tell ya what, getting Quinten Lynch (U18 All-Australian) on our rookie list is a bloody bargain. He is flying in the WAFL at the moment.

Yeah, I wanted him at the Pies.

We got Tristen Walker from Claremont, who is another athletic key backman.

Judkins and everyone else passed up Lynch in the draft, but I will back Noel's preference of Walker over Lynch. He'd know best!!
