Crouch was out for a long time, he needs a month in the reserves before we even think about bringing him back, form will be a separate question.

Need Bond to come in for Max with hawthorns small forwards.

Crouch is a stat padding crab and the more he gets it, the worse it is for us.

I would say the same for some of you guys on here tbh, think you will shit it in based on the way you are playing. That might happen but I can't see it happen we are certainly more than capable. Your board you guys can say what you want I get that so I'll leave it at that. Acknowledging it's a huge challenge.
Not sure I’ve seen any posts like that?

Simple really

Cumming in
Michalanney Out Inj

F Rankine Fogarty Walker
HF Keays Thilthorpe Taylor
C Cook Dawson Curtin
HB Milera Keane Cumming
B Worrell Murray Laird
R O'Brien Peatling Soligo
I Pedlar Neale-Bullen Berry Jones
S Hinge

Out: Michalanney, Pedlar
IN: Bond (will probably be Smith), Cumming

I doubt Pedlar will be dropped but I've just about given up on him. I had him as a potential A grade mid/forward but he just doesn't do enough or get enough of the ball. I don't know if it's a fitness or work rate issue, but I would have thought last night conditions would have been perfect him.

Taylor - building but hasn't cemented his place IMO.

Cook - who is this guy wearing number 15. Looks a completely different player. His intensity and work ethic have gone through the roof. He looks hungry. Amazing what a bigger body and confidence can do for your game. That kick to Fogarty was sublime.

Jones - Doing okay but I don't see a long-term role.

Bond - One of the few success stories of 2024. Came in and immediately looked a 150-200 game player. Tough, aggressive and composed under pressure. Really unlucky not to have played this year.
I hope this version of Pedlar is like 2022 Milera. Just needs to bank a block of games, have another pre season and bring out his best

If Max is fine it's and it was all just pre-cautionary it becomes interesting.

Probably Jones back for a full game in the SANFL and Pedler to sub?
Even if it was precautionary, you don't risk soft tissue in the lead up to finals.
He needs a rest. The risk may pay off, but it is way too large and this is too important to get wrong.

I don't want to go back to Pyke style, play the favoured players even when injured. That cost Walker and Crouch big time. But that is another dissertation.

Agreed, no massive changes needed. Cook taking Cumming's wing spot has been pleasing. Rotating them is wise with Cumming playing at HB ideal.

If we have someone go down we have options

Crouch as midfield grunt if needed, Nankervis for medium forward and Burgess as marking forward, Rachelle when fit for the Pedlar role and Smith/Edwards/Bond for HB and Butts for FB. Pretty much every line is covered

Out - Taylor
In - Draper
This if Max is ok.

Out - Taylor, Michaelanny
In - Draper, Borlase
This if Max isn't ok.

Borlase always does a job when he comes back in.
Borlase?

Why on earth Borlase, who does he take in the Hawks forward line?

Luke shouldn't be dropped. I think the club wants to eventually give him a crack in the centre. He is that down and under player that might improve our centre clearance issue.
He is a good player, and along with Cook offer something different. Both are well ahead of Taylor in my book

We would be both Butts and Michaelanny down. You need to bring in another bigger player to replace them. Borlase can play tall and small.
Who do you think the natural replacement is for Max? Please dont say Toby Murray.
He can take the player Max would have.
Hawks actually have three taller goal kickers.

Are we talking the same James Borlase?

Borlase's kryptonite has always been his lack of pace and a turning circle like the Titanic.

If ever there was a team the Hawks are not the team to play Borlase with their plethora of ground level players.

Also, why would we bring him back unless it's to replace an injured berry / peatling? He's no longer best 22. Sucks for him but that's the way it is.

They have three talls. Their three talls topped their goal kickers on the weekend.
The club has four options. Bring back Smith, bring back Borlase, bring in Bond, or blood Edwards.
They arnt going to blood Edwards in this game.
Smith might come back in, but isn't a direct replacement for Max.
Bond might come in for a shut-down role on Watson or Ginni, but he is limited to smalls.
One for one it would be Borlase.
Its going to be an interesting watch to see what they do.

Reality is, we don’t have anyone that can take on talls/smalls like Max can

Given we’re already playing three taller defenders, Bond definitely feels like the way to go, for mine

You seriously should read their preview thread. It reminds me how much I hate Hawthorn, well actually their supporter base. A whole bunch of them saying we won’t know what hit us, they’ll smash us, blah blah blah.
We’re on top of the ladder (for today), sit on 146%, have the highest rated defence in the AFL, which is also the 3rd highest rated defense since champion data has existed.
I really can’t wait until we do a number on these pricks this week.

If we want clubs like Hawthorn and Collingwood to respect us we need to beat them every now and then

Well unless one of Murray, Keane or Worrell don't play I would be absolutely astounded if Borlase comes in to replace Max's role or is even named on the bench.

He does,

But who does he play on ?? Theyve got Moore, Ginni and Watson, James doesnt play on smalls like that. Bond played on and did well against small forwards last year when he came in. Probably played his best game in the 2s on the weekend, he should get a crack.
