We've trained Taylor in a forward role all summer. He clearly showed he was at the level last year and that spot in the team has now opened. Simply has to be him.
You think we will go with Taylor to play Rachele's role up forward or Draper?

I thought Draper looked at home up forward and enjoyed his shooting for goal, nice kicks.

I disagree. Sid Draper has won that spot with his performance against North, and we need to find a way to get full games into him.

After all, 2 goals, 16 pressure acts, 4 tackles is a really hard line to turn down for a speculative pick.

I think Draper is a natural midfielder who struggled to get involved in Racheles spot.

He got two goals and had a big game defensively (4 tackles/16 PA) in 2 and a half quarters. The story is the opposite to what you're saying here. This is a kid that flexed he can be a high level small forward, which he should be - we're banking him on being an elite midfielder.

The natural midfielder argument doesn't hold up either, if you're a capable midfielder, you have a game to do a solid job at small forward by proxy.

Current form was the argument when they selected Himmelberg ahead of Thilthorpe. BF smashed them over it.

Now you're suggesting that they should pick current form over talent when it comes to Nank vs Milera?

This is the point I'm making. BF picks & chooses when players should be picked on form or talent, with zero consistency, as it's based entirely on who happens to be the board's favourite at that particular point in time.

Milera was quiet this week, but he was good vs Essendon. Players should not be dropped after 1 bad game (and Milera wasn't even bad against Norf - quiet yes, bad no).
Not sure Milera has the form or talent over Nank at this point.
Sure he was a high pick but how long do you wait for that?

Sid did well yesterday and I'm in favour of giving him more gametime but I'm not convinced he should be playing a specialist forward role for the next 4-6 weeks, purely due to what I think his strengths are. It's a watch and I'm happy to see a larger sample size of Draper in a small forward role. For next week, the easy solution is potentially resting Tex and having both play. Beyond that will depend on how we gel against the Suns, but again, I see other avenues (ie omitting Sholl) that we could explore before plugging Draper into the small forward role.

I think 'struggled to get involved' is a tad bit harsh for a 2 goal 14 disposal game but I agree with the idea that Draper might not have the x-factor and polish for the Rachele role longer term.

while I dont disagree with what you are saying, Draper only had 7 touches

I disagree. Part of the game here is to make as little changes as possible, seeing we've put up 3 100+ scores, which means our outside game is working. The only reason we should be changing anything with our outside players right now is due to injury.

We need to give Draper game time, and we just saw that he capable of a hatchet role. To add to this point, after the Gold Coast game, we're about to run into two of the best teams in the league at scoring from the defensive half. Effectively this is a way to replace Rachele with elite leg speed for a few weeks and reinforce our ability to shut down ball movement from the backline (+ whatever offensive output we get is a bonus, as it's not like we're struggling in this aspect).

Gets him a run, and by the time Rachele is back, someone else has likely dropped from an injury.

We need a genuine replacement for Rachele, not a 1 week stopgap

Pedlar or Taylor in for him for the next month. Draper is not a small forward, and while Taylor isn't either at least he's been training there. Either way is fine, probably leaning towards Pedlar as the closer like for like match.

I'm willing to give a mulligan to our outside players who were all underwhelming on the weekend. Milera and Sholl have been the focus of the hate but Cumming and Neal-Bullen hardly got into the game either.

You cannot convince me Borlase is a better player than Butts no matter how well he plays on Zurhaar, who by the way is not a tall forward

Out: Rachele (injured), Borlase
In: Pedlar, Butts

Emergencies: Nankervis, Taylor, T. Murray

Draper either remains sub or starts and we shift Sholl to sub

I think Pedlar isnt a bad option, but him cramping early in the 2nd half of the SANFL game isnt a great sign.

Cumming would be a good sub option IMO, that speed and line breaking kick late in the game would be an asset.
