This is one of the three or so games that we "always" lose, like anyone in Tasmania and Geelong at Geelong.

Last year, Geelong conceded their game against the Suns in Darwin before the match with their selections. I'd almost be prepared to program in this known loss by resting Tex and maybe more players, concentrating on the next three winnable games with fit and refreshed senior or fragile players.

I realise that this goes against the one match at a time philosophy, but it looks prudent to me looking at the longer-term perspective. It would also test depth players in pressure situations.

Come at me!

It would depend on tom Stewart... if he's out throw everything we've got to break the hoodoo

Generally, we are in a very good position, but there are some questions that need asking.

1. Replacement for Rachele. Should be Draper in and Dowling to sub.
2. Milera is still rubbish. Should be replaced by Nankervis, we would probably opt for Smith, but won't be for a few weeks yet.
3. Keane is a worry. Leaking goals, getting beaten regularly and is turning the ball over. I'm a fan, but he's not been good.
4. Borlase is a player that you can only pick for the right match up - someone big and slow.

We will want to make as few changes as possible, so I expect it to just be Rachele and Borlase out, Draper and Murray in.

Playing Tex could allow us to drop filthy back (last resort) if their talls got a hold of us.
Surely Curtin would be backup plan.

Though we may need for use Worrell more defensively.

Curtin could stay forward
Ideally & move him back at last resort... or even as loose man if under the pump.

But I wouldn't be moving Thilthorpe into defence.

Wouldnt be the worst options.

Still think Milera needs to have a run in the 2s now.

3 weeks in and he still isnt anywhere near it.

I think most of us were of the opinion that he should have started the season in the B's then pre-match Sunday old mate Nicksy spoke of him in very glowing terms he wont be dropped I don't think well not this week.

“If Wayne Milera is fit and ready to play, he will be selected”. He’s not subject to performance based selection.

I can get behind this line of thinking though it asks a lot of a first year player. If you want minimal change tactically like the first part of your post suggests, I think we're getting it a lot more swapping Rachele for Taylor.

If Draper is who we think he is, he'll be fine. At worse, he's just got 4 more games under his belt and likely some moments to build off.

Also - bringing in a player to improve the team, regardless of the results, is actually the sign of a strong club, with a good coach.

Would be good to see a big statement from the coaching group like this; are we happy with how we are, or are we chasing improvement every week?

Given the short turnaround, we do need to manage players. Need to play the long game & develop an expanded squad as we will need it.

Walker should be rested from long travels & need him fresh for Cats.
Allows us to manage Curtin as 3rd tall forward.
Jones comes in as 3rd wingman.
Nankervis just has to come in for Milera.
We need Butts height & lockdown as Keane can't be main lockdown defender.
Draper gets his 1st start with Rachele injury.
Taylor as sub as think we need to inject another midfielder.

In: Butts, Nankervis, Jones, Taylor
Out: Borlase, Milera, Walker, Rachele

B: Laird, Butts, Keane
HB: Michaelanny, Worrell, Hinge
C: Jones, Dawson, Cumming
HF: ANB, Fogarty, Keays
F: Curtin, Thilthorpe, Rankine
R: O'Brien, Soligo, Peatling
I: Nankervis, Crouch, Sholl, Draper
Sub: Taylor
