I don't see him being able to play defender at all, personally. He's instinctual; he wants to go and get the ball, be the bloke who starts things. He's strong, and he's got reasonable acceleration despite not being quick.

The problem is Cripps is in that precise role.

It's why I'm with Jimmae who thinks we should turn Cripps into the relief ruckman. He's going to give us more around the stoppage than Pittonett would whilst in the ruck, and once the ball hits the deck the opposition will be outnumbered anyway.
Not without merit for Cripps to do some ruck relief. We have a large group of mids good enough to play there at the highest level.. Cripps does need alternatIve role/roles to allow the developing players some time at the coalface.

Big NO to this. TDK should be instructed to jump in to Mumford on every occasion. Goldstein did this all game and gave norf silver service. MUMFORD can’t jump and has no mobility. It is a great opportunity for TDK to exploit this and step up as our first ruck. It’s time..

Goldstein has 10 more years of size/strength/density/conditioning.
Mumford can't jump. So he falls into his opponent any chance he gets to make sure they can't jump or run off him either. Dirtiest player in the league.

Don't have any solid Ins/Outs, just general selection thoughts..

Plowman comes straight back in.

I'm torn on our second ruck situation. I really don't want Pittonet in the side, but our only other option is Casboult and he has offered next to nothing this year.
Maybe with a couple of weeks off his body has improved? I'm not sure any of our smaller players could play the role ala Grigg.. maybe JSOS?

SPS and O'Brien need a solid run at senior footy in the back half of the year to see where they are at. The pathetic West Coast performance shouldn't be forgotten by the MC after a bye, so there are plenty of players who can be dropped for them. The season is shot, may as well give them the look now.

Whenever Kemp is fit enough, bring him in.

Yeah, he's terribly dirty. Can I haz?
We complain that our list is too nice but then criticise someone else for playing rough.

Yeah it's dirty but he obviously has a significant impact for GWS, just look at how they play with him vs without him. The record shows as much. It's why they brought him out of retirement and he's in a playing/coach role at 34.

Not suggesting we need to drop knees into blokes like he does but I'd love 1 or 2 of our boys to hit bodies to hurt every now and then. A physical presence does make a difference.

For me Dows biggest problem is what he does without the ball. He is virtually unsighted if the ball isn't in his hands. Doesn't seem to chase, tackle, block, Sheppard etc. The 1%s

This describes most of our midfield to be fair.

We need to play Casboult/Pitonet.
Mumford will do his absolute best to destroy TDK by means of "clumsy accidents".

Mummy usually hurts smaller players.

Teague said the other week SPS has been on a training program to pick up his running capacity to play more midfield minutes - I wouldn't be surprised if he played flat in that VFL game .. we will see if it works or this is really the coaches plan as if it is I would expect him to play this week (after a 5 week training block )

I don’t think SPS will be going, everyone seems to think if a guy gets dropped that’s the end of them.

Is Kemp close to selection? I know he’s had 1 VFL hit out, but that was nearly a month ago, he would still have been building fitness.
Who knows... I would think he'd be fit enough, but from the outside we have no real idea of what his current form is like, which is probably the big thing right now.

I would have loved him playing for us.

Mummy usually hurts smaller players.

I'm mainly concerned because this is a kid who's had various injuries and been put in cotton wool for the last few years. He's tall, etc but in ruckman terms he's still a kid.
He's just getting right to be able to play the stretch of games he needs to start conditioning his body. Do we want to put him up against a washed up dirty scragger who specialises in the sort of professional fouls that injure players?

And I'm not suggesting Cas because he's playing well. I'm suggesting him because he's too big for Mumford to monster, and he's on the way out (ie expendable).

Watch his debut game if you can - when he can play say 70% of a game he will slot straight in and never see VFL again. All Class can see him playing anywhere

Although not necessarily related to the GWS game... if McKay, Newman and Gibbons are all declared fit for football this weekend, then this will be the healthiest round of the year for us! 39 players to choose from a 45 man list (Marchy, Gov, Cunners, McD, Philpy, CC unavailable)

I'm super excited about this and what it means for the VFL teams performance and development for the rest of the year!!!

* touch wood*

This week i'd like to see...

In: SPS, Plowman
Out: Cottrell, Murphy
Sub: Fogarty

Ed to the wing, SPS in the centre.

I watched somewhere between a third and a half of that VFL game, thought he looked really good, considering the couple of injuries he’s come off and the amount of footy he’s played in the last 2 years.

It’s only a matter of time before he’s selected. Could even be this week. But without being able to see him in the last month or so it’s hard for us outsiders to judge.

McKay sign, Cripps sign, Charlie ready to go, Kemp into the ones.

THats this weeks dream outcome
