Autopsy Round 15, 2024: Positives and Negatives vs Essendon

Agree, all the definition of list cloggers.

Rotham's ability to make at least 1-2 deadset howlers every game is astounding.

I mean Williams ain't a list clogger, but he's definitely surplus to our team structure at the moment and we need to get some good draft capital for him before his trade value absolutely tanks when we start playing him in the WAFL.

Won't be long now IMO.

What's worse?

Thinking Flynn is better than he is before playing a game for the Eagles

Or

Completely writing him off after 3 games for the Eagles

If he doesn't beat Hawthorn this week like Nic Nat did in his first year he'll be on the delist pile.

What could save him is if he swings and misses from the goal square, but tries to claim the goal anyway. Followed by an Up the ****ing Coasters fist pump to an away crowd.

I do think the sooner we can find an upgrade/replacement for the below players, the better the club will be.

Jones, Rotham, Petrucelle and B.Williams.

I get the player they want Jones to be. I just think he's had long enough to do it and it's time to face facts, it's not happening, he's not consistent enough for AFL.

Rotham is obvious. Adds nothing, does nothing, just state level trash that's been on a list too long thanks to his agent.

Petrucelle, same as above, albeit less pressing. A 7 year career of being an average player. There's bigger fish to cull, but he's definitely in #Whatsthepoint territory.

Williams is good enough for AFL, but blind Freddy can see he's not a forward and only played some reasonable AFL in the ruck due to his athleticism and grit. Trade fodder every day of the week. Let some other kent try and turn him into an forward, because we can't and right now we're just turning him into a potato on the open market. Another season of this shit and he'll be worth a 5th rounder.
Once we replace those bottom 5 we'll be back in the 8. Hopefully it happens in the next season or two from young guys developing and trading in to fill gaps.

We're not allowed to write off bog average footballers like Josh Rotham after 8 seasons either apparently. May as well just make your call early and take any egg on your face that arrives.

Draper physically bullying Flynn in the ruck and destroying him around the ground, first game back from a decent knee issue, was hardly confidence inspiring viewing. Surely you can admit that?

Definitely concerning, I'm willing to give Flynn the back half of the season to prove himself though, more out of hope than anything....and the fact that BWilliams just isn't going to be any better

I'm saying there's no in between with a lot of this board; either you're "already our best player"* or you're a list clogger that should never play football at any level ever again - when in reality they're somewhere in between. This site is hyperbole at 100 miles an hour.

Flynn isn't Dean Cox and he's not Paul Harding. At the very least give him a few more games before forming a reliable opinion on him.

*this always was the joke

Agreed, we either say they're the best player ever or should be delisted, no in between, all hyperbole all the time.

I've gone the other way with Flynn. Far from writing him off, I'm doubling down and think he should be our sole ruck. I've watched loads of his games for GWS and can definitely see he's a much better player than he's shown so far.

Think he's just unfit and out of touch. Wouldn't be like Simpson playing an unfit/underdone player at senior level would it?

Fold the club.

I’m still on the Flynn train. Wasn’t great and made Draper look like a star until he tried kicking.

The 60% and 67% from your 2 ruckman isnt the right way to do rotations. Either Darling as to go or we have to find someone who can back up ruck. Maric? Listed at 196 and seems to have a half decent leap.

Surely this is what keeps BW on the list. Darling could be the back-up ruck in the forward line as well as rotating tall with Allen, Waterman and Williams but his form decline over the past year suggests the end is coming soon.

I think thats been more of a thing over the last few years when numbers have been low and the senior players from the premiership got prioritised when we were still trying to win games, and more recently young players have been prioritised
I’m not so sure. Last weekend was the most flexibility he’s shown in trialling players in different positions since I can remember tbh.

Hes never really had to before. The last few years has been hard to try much at all due to lack of availability, and before that you dont try too much with a genuine contender squad

The guy is playing his third game for a new club after a very significant injury.

Writing him off now is just absurd and petty. From what I have seen he does provide a physical presence at ruck contests which we have lacked since Nic Nat retired.

Against Essendon was not his best game. In fact, ironically, BW may have been a better opponent for Draper with his superior athleticism. But on the whole Flynn is the better ruckman who has the size to compete.

Every recruit we have had over the last decade has taken time to settle in and produce his best football.

Flynn is not Dean Cox or NN but neither is he Jon Giles.

Agreed on all fronts, even though they’re all capable of delivering a positive game.

Bazzo the only one we have on our list who I think can oust one of these. The rest have to come through the draft or a big leap of development in our kids.
