Tank mode begins. Back in the hunt for the Harley Reid Cup.
Yeah, you got too many wins already for that. West Coast finished 17th last year with two wins, and they're still just as bad as last year, with a worse injury list this year, except Hawthorn decided to join the tankathon party this year and bottom out.

Two of those games are against us, aren't they?

The last time West Coast won the spoon didn't Lecras kick like 11 goals on us. I'm sure we could still manage to lose to them this year.

The way they are tracking they might not have enough players to fill a team…but still not confident.

So sick of this Harley Reid crap. How many of these superstar pick 1's actually been the best player of their draft class? I'd say Riewoldt, Goddard and Walsh are. The rest no.

Not many like reid come around and are ready made like him, coupled with the skill/versatility and athletic profile, most of the explosive players aren’t close to finished products as underagers and really come on when their body matures. You could argue petracca should’ve gone pick 1 if Saints didn’t pigeon hole their thinking into taking a key forward when it was clear to all petracca was the best player of the draft. Also as it tends to happen the pick 1 can often just be the safest pick home run in the draft a lot of the time a small ball winning midfielder. JHF copped the same amount of talk 2 years ago in his draft year and he looks like a superstar in the making, Reid is another level above him. So it’s fair to say someone is going to get a very good player.

I think I've heard this about every #1 pick ever

Right. Horne-Francis was said to be the same. So were Jamarra, Rowell and Walsh. Obviously the jury is still out on JHF but Walsh is pretty much the only #1 pick of the past 20 years that you'd look at the draft and still have at #1. Even if they look like superstars amongst their peers you have no idea whether that continues into senior football.

And yeah, you say Reid is a level above that, but what if it's the case that his peers are a level below what JHF had?

So they've essentially upgraded everyone in their relative positions, and we've upgraded two, broke even in one and downgraded in 5.

Wonder if Lions pull a couple out for a rest now they’ve seen our team. I mean why would they risk Zorko.

Happy with our performances this season but this looks too big an ask with players we have out.

The key to port winning was Brisbane didn’t turn up to play.

We hold our breath at the start of all games. When we go absent we do it very well.

Live in fear that we are still that team cause ten years in wilderness leaves scars.

So we have 7 of our best 22 out injured:-

Parish, Laverde, Jones, Guelfi, Ridley, 2MP & Kelly

Then there’s Cox and Tsatas also who haven’t played this year…

Do we have the longest injury list in the AFL?

A few weeks ago West coast had 14 players at training cause of injury - was discussed by the AFL qld and the WA journalists on a lions podcast.

Unbelievable that they get it so wrong, and have done for a few years.

2 of our big issues atm are

1. Marking, both around the ground and fwd 50 - personnel available not helping but Draper & Phillips are lucky to take 5 between them a game, which is killing us.
2. turnovers - Port must have kicked 5+ directly from turnovers. Positive is this is fixable.

Been happy with our defence though, we are definitely improved IMO.

This week might be a bit of a stretch because the Lyons have a powerhouse midfield up and running.

But we should get a pretty fascinating insight into what is a better midfield balance without Parish.
I think from memory the bombers have a good winning record WITHOUT Parish. And the talk previously was he was getting monster possessions with not many metres gained. But it seems from my limited viewing that's a bit of a dated view of him, he is more damaging and just a pretty good player these days?
