Autopsy Round 9 vs Essendon plus changes

We have a fundamental problem that was particularly evident last night. We are clumsy, and i don't just mean McGuane and Nahas. Whenever we attempt to pick the loose ball of the ground, rarely do we gather it cleanly with the first attempt. Too many kicks failed to be effectively delivered to the intended target - making the intended target's job all that much more difficult. Even more troubling were the occasions when we dropped well delivered passes. The same sort of clumsiness was there to be cringed over when we handballed. Clumsy Tiges. We had to work twice as hard (perhaps even more) than should have been necessary. Practice these fundamental skills - other clubs clearly practice these things more than we do.

great post capitano i agree with everything you said except for chasing gumbleton you must be joking, what a you thinking man he is a spud . why not try griff elton mcbean or azza at full forward and hff not only drop ty but luke as well he is shit been telling you that for five years. as for jack for every week that he doesn't sign his price drops 450 a year or see you later jack. i think sellers is on the money with him . poor man richo but richo had heart .

He isn't fantastic, but he is much better than Vickery.
Attacks the ball hard and is a good shot at goal. He is only 2 years older than Vickery too.
Either way, Vickery is a dud and I told you all.
Rubbish footballer.

Big troubles for selection this week. With the big ground we need runners, however I would still advocate dropping Grigg and Nahas. Grigg in particular needs to be sent a message, we needs competitors not parasites. He needs to go regardless of how much we think he might needed on the big ground. It was there for all to see, his 27 possession were worse than ineffectual.

Unlucky guys. It will get even harder next week against West Coast. Good Luck! :)

We really missed the run and link up play of ellis and conca tonight. It goes to show you we actually dont have depth because nahas, white, lonergan, grigg and mcguane simply would not get a game in a top 8 side. We need a big fish in the pre-season ala essendon with goddard last year to get to that next level.

Defence was good, forwards didnt lead and midfield well beaten

So who are we short next week then? Conca's, Ellis, Tuck, Knights, Grimes, Petterd, maybe Deledio?

I'll say it once more only. Vickery is no good.
I'm sorry, people on this board may hate me but sport is a game of opinions and that is mine.
Yes, I know he had one good year, in 2011.
You know who else had a good year once upon a time? Shane Woewodin.
I think we should chase Gumbleton in the off-season, he is much MUCH better than Vickery if he can stay on the park.

The coaching staff should be ashamed of themselves putting Nahas in the side against a big, strong bodied team like the bombers. What a disgrace. The bloke couldn't stick a tackle to save himself and looks completely out of his depth. Dud. Delist.

Deledio, I love you but my god you need to play good against a decent side.
The only tag he has shaken this season is an 'over-the-hill' Kane Cornes.

Our ill-discipline continues to be a feature of our game. Very, very poor. Bad coaching in this area.
Jake King, when you give away a free kick, shut the eff up. You look like a fool.

Our lack of run is pathetic. We looked slow and unfit against a very professional bombers side.

You know you're in trouble when Grigg and Jackson are your highest possession getters. Would love to know how many times they turned the ball over or hand balled to someone under pressure tonight but don't want to waste another 2 hours of my life watching the replay.

Oh and on a final note, is there any, ANY chance that Alex Rance will be able to keep his feet one of these days? Big biceps, big chest but absolutely no core strength.
What a joke

Goodnight.

While im not sure TV is no good he certainly is playing poorly and dont think he has a ruckmans mentality. maybe he will develop this as he get bigger. Maybe.

On Rance i think core strength is a part of it but to me its more technique. He simply tries that final effort to spoil by having to dive at the ball which means its all or nothing. At other times he tries to spoil with his body in a fwd angle which means his loses traction from the ground. Essentially means he needs to be closer to his opponent, stand taller and have a more vertical angle to maintain his traction and keep his feet.

The score line flattered us.

Where is the hardness at the contest and the hard bodies around the ball that was suggested we'd get under Dimma? By the time Ellis and Vlastuin have matured, Lids will be retired and I'll be in a nursing home.

The good sides have evolved a game plan creating shots on goal from turnovers and the half back line. Essendon killed us doing this. Well we had plenty of it on our half back line, as evidenced by Chaplin and Rances stats, but couldn't muster a fraction of their endeavor when the ball was in our hands.

A number of us were questioning our development as a side after the win last week against the Dees. I think there's a few more now.

I'm not suggesting drastic measures but if we think we're going to get better because Cotch puts a couple of extra candles on his cake we're kidding ourselves. Time to look closely at every aspect of the football department and make sure we have the right systems and people in place before we waste a generation of the best talent we've had in decades.

I think our game plan needs a tweek to have less useless fwd running for more overlap from behind.

I haven't been a fan of Rance this year but last night he put up a solid performance therefore the hate for him on this weeks review is unfounded. Save it for the games he actually puts up a stinker. None of our defenders had a bad game yesterday and I would back them against WCE. We were smashed in what was supposed to be our strength our midfield which has a soft underbelly once the ante is raised in high pressure games.

Some of the posts on this thread are borderline insanity.

Seriously, this is what I just dont get. Last season, most of those were one of our strengths but now, as you have rightly pointed out, we are bloody awful in those areas. What the hell has happened- change of line coaches, gameplan?????????????????????? Our defence has gotten better but our offensive play and ball movement is just awful. Forward 50 entry strategy has not improved and needs some serious work, bomb it to talls is clearly not the go
To many short dinky handballs to [a] player about to get caught or a player that close he cant see it coming. Maric not giving our on ballers good service, ive noticed this year he watches his opponent as he goes for contests and looses sight of the ball also giving us nothing around the ground dropping easy marks . Last year he was our driving force maybe a bit to comfortable now, which isn't a good thing as I thought we had got that out of our club

Maric is shouldering a lot of responsibility at the moment without a quality second ruckman. Vickery can only have stints in there but we've discovered that he isn't a ruckman in any form of the word. The Big O can possibly be a good second ruck but having three talls in Vicks, O and Maric could prove costly. Wish we had a Natanui who is basically an onballer/ruck. :(

Out: Nahas, McGuane

Not sure what has happened to Nahas but this year he is clearly not AFL standard.

In: McDonagh (sub), White to play full game - he always plays well in the West & either Elton or Griffiths. With Grimes out we are going to need some height against the Weagles. I'd like to see them debut an unknown - watched McDonagh yesterday, he knows how to play. Worth the risk.

Rancy is like that smurf that walks around with the mirror in his hand - always checking his hair.

I'm an avid Tiges follower ... I'm savage on Cotch at the moment.

If he thinks the Tiges are a walk up start for finals ... He's kidding himself.
That comment he made when he was addressing the players, something along the lines of "thanks for the old guys for sticking around" was absolute pure arrogance.

Cotch, stuff the media .. Worry about that 2012 form.
Cotch might be still getting possessions ... But they are crap ones, no bearing on the game

Thats crap. Where and when did he say this or infer it?????????????

I understand your point but lets not throw some mayo on this.

Defence good.

Midfield bad.

Forwards confused (again).

Did we have a game plan?

And why was Dimma so slow to make some obvious moves (too many holes in the dike?).

We just haven't clicked so far this season.

The missus said that some of the players looked ill.

Martin for example.

Have there been any gastro/flu alerts at the club?

(Straw clutching time.)

You can constantly say to our players to do things but if they go in their shells at the drop of a hat what do you do?

The fact is our players have a severe lack of convidence when it gets a little hard.

No we were too busy practicing how to close off tight games remember.

We have two glaring issues.

- midfield defensive pressure. not running both ways hard enough. not playing enough players through there. ellis late out for nahas hurt our setup, run and intercept greatly.

- forward setup. Jack and ty should be the only talls up forward. we lack speed, creativity and defensive pressure. we also lack a link up option. shane edwards would better serve us up forward right now. (find a bloody true CHF please we have three good options in Elton, Astbury and Griff. in that order too.

These need to be addressed and fixed permanently.

our balance wasn't right through the middle yesterday, our set up up forward isn't working.

Out: McGuane, Nahas
In: Arnot, Petterd (if available, HFF)

why did nahas come in for a mid/winger in ellis? why not someone more defensively minded in Dea? or indeed someone of a similar size giving us options through defence and the middle, try something new.

why was dempsey's run not shut down? why do we not play a pure stopper? Stanton 39, Goddard 34, Hibberd 29, Watson 28, Heppell 27

You reckon Houli and Griggs Contracts say the cant miss a senior game no matter how bad they play ?

Imo goddard hasnt been the great p/u its been said as he is only doing what he replaced from last year. At a huge cost too. For that money i'd want a better player.

Nearly all rucks look at their opponent now and maric isnt any different so i wouldnt read much into that.
