So what do North need?

I think we will throw the cheque book at Simpson and Clarkson first, I think then the attention will turn to Sam Mitchell......

Been a few tweets about a well regarded list manager coming over as GM of football. I think this could potentially be Brady Rawlings.

Dilena and Buckley have a relationship with Clarkson from back in day but it’s a 1/5000 shot getting Clarkson over. He might even still hold a grudge from how he was treated at the end of his playing days at North.

I like the Mitchell option - his inexperience makes him risky, but reward could be there.

Caracella also in the mix for mine.

Bit of chat about the list on here - there are holes in it, like every list, but the list is pretty good imo and is, ironically for our position on the ladder, in better shape than it has been for ages.
Biggest issue with the list is that player development hasn’t been great. We aren’t even getting the best out of established players let alone youth - whether it’s a man management issue or a tactical issue (ie playing guys out of position / over coaching) I dunno but players like Atley (been good this year) have got so much more to give imo and need a harder edge about them (more cunnington need throughout the whole list)

Alan McConnell from GWS is apparently who we are targeting as the new GM of football.

McConnell was Alan Richardson’s mentor in days gone by and Richardson played with North.
If Richardson were to part ways with St.Kilda, he might fit nicely into a revamped coaching outfit as a senior assistant in which he has been previously highly regarded.
The AFL is nothing if not an old boys club ...

From a list perspective.

Issues:
Leg speed is still an issue. The 6-6-6 rule has hurt our ability to curtail burst clearances from teams with pacey/burst-like mids. The lack of around the ground leg speed has hampered our defensive transitions, so a hell of a lot relies on really high work rate and the opposition kicking it back to us.

Foot skills. Not as big a issue as it used to be. A few of our better users are down on confidence atm and we are over-handballing. Guys like Dumont/Ahern/LDU are notable examples of confidence/gameplan issues. All three are beautiful kicks of the footy.

Small/general defenders and small forwards. Guys like Turner aren't going to win a premiership and our backline lacks a decent speedy HB accumlator and a lock down small defender with leg speed. As soon as the ball hits the ground in defensive fifty, it often results in an opposition goal. Up forward, we have a lot of promising to good medium forwards from Garner to Zurhaar, even Wood still has something to offer. However, we lack a good crumbing pacey small forward.

Ruck. Goldy is getting on and his young replacement is a better forward/ruck than a pure ruck.

Strengths:
Key Position Forwards: Brown/Larkey are going fine. Wood is a struggling medium flanker.

KPD's: Tarrant/Watson/Durdin/McKay, not too worried about them. Still a few years left in Taz.

Young Talent: Simpkin/LDU/Ahern/Thomas/Zurhaar/Larkey have all shown a bit over the last 2 years. Still need some more elite young talent all over the ground.

As for a cleanout, this would be a long-term thing and can't all be at once. Some players need to go and some need to be re-invented and persisted with.

As for a coach, we need someone that will bring a ruthless Hawk like culture and not so much the corporate like approach that Brad seemingly adopted. Someone like Mitchell and co. Don't want Longmire or Roos (not that the latter is an option). Would rather someone with fresh ideas and doesn't play favourites with certain players.
Elite response

They need to get away from this 'we are too poor to be at the bottom of the ladder' crap.

For a team that struggles for support, being middle of the road for a long time is worse than being dreadful for a shorter period.

Being at the bottom incites passion and anger. It makes heads roll and people press for change, and change often happens (unless you're a total basket case like the Blues, in which case you're basically only there for the laughs and to ruin promising draftees).

Being irrelevant creates disengagement, disinterestedness and eventually, people walk away. Richmond could get away with it because they have a large supporter base, but North don't. If they don't change something soon, they're in trouble.

Horse would be the perfect replacement, especially if he's given the remit to rebuild and bring kids and guys from other clubs through.

Teresa May

They've already got a reverse Brexit going on, using the Teresa May method.

With Brexit, the people want to leave, and those in charge say they'll make it happen, but are playing silly buggers to keep them where they are. With North, the people want to stay, and those in charge say they'll do that, but just keep chipping away at moving...3 games in Tas...no, make that 4...Just for the money of course...and as soon as that's settled....what about..??? .

For starters they can throw their recruiters in the bin along with whoever developes the youth because they've had far too many misses in the draft.

Trouble is, that's where money comes in.

Sure, there might be a soft cap on football dept wages, but if the recruiter at Collingwood gets to work with a million dollar database of clips of all the young players, and the one at North is using Brad's old VCR, then Collingwood will recruit better people for the same money, and they'll be more effective. (obviously that's an extreme/exaggerated example, but there is no denying the rich clubs staff get better toys to play with, meaning they generally get better people and use them more effectively).

North just need a coach who doesn't accept mediocrity, and a fan base that embraces the c9ach.

Scott tried it early on, attempting to rid the club of "shinboner spirit" and honourable losses, but the fans got up in arms over it.
How dare he try to make the club professional. He was pushing s**t up hill from that moment

North need to bolster their scout/ recruiting department.

Ratten would be a good choice as coach. Caracella a good choice if they want a rookie. (Anyone but Crocker)

Caracella I'd be fine with. I don't think we have too much of an issue identifying talent, it is more developing it.

Jeez Richmond supporters all cried themselves to sleep that night when it looked Dusty might move didn't they?

Their obsession with North and money is just hilarious.

We'll finish bottom 4 for 2 of the last 3 years. That's "bottom" enough for me, and we're already pissed enough. Don't need to finish dead last.

LOL!

Yeah that would explain Brisbane's rise from bottom to top 4.

A Richmond supporters first and last thoughts are of membership numbers haha

It is soooooo predictable.

Really, they should thank Brad Scott for their premiership - the embarrassment we dealt them in the 2015 elim final made them actual sit down and think about where they are.
