Roast So, when does Burgess start getting some scrutiny?

Wouldn't putting on a heap of muscle weight now be an admission that we've completely stuffed up with our fitness and conditioning philosophies the last 3 years?

I still think running is our strength, with immense pressure and quick handball because generally our skills by foot hurt us. We need to find that extra zip in our pace and ball movement again, a lot of that was lost through injuries and loss of confidence that can be regained. GWS and Bullies both play that high pressure, fast running, quick handball game that I think will be where the game will keep heading. We kind of already play that way but haven't been very good at it.

Nope, it would mean that we've built up sufficient cardiovascular endurance to facilitate blood supply to those muscles, IMO.

What's wrong with admitting we stuffed up? I'd prefer we did that than stay the course out oof stubborness.

Ken said in a post-season interview that we don't need to put on a heap of muscle mass. There will be some gains I expect but in balance with running capacity in line with the Bulldogs and probably within the guidelines of the long term fitness program.

Given the Swans influence being mentioned in post-season talk of changes in the coaching box (Dew, Carroll, maybe even Francou) that could change.

I don't really see the bulldogs as a bulky side, they would be no bigger than our guys but they just play with an extreme appetite for the contest. Basically what we were doing in 2014. Be interesting to see how they go next year, and whether they can back it up.

Sydney on the other hand do look bigger than our guys.

agree

at some stage we have to make a change in strategy. A change for the better can never come soon enough.

They were bigger than us when we played at AO in Rd 12 and we just lost. Redpath and ruckman Campbell were probably the biggest surprises at how much bigger and stronger than their Port opponents to my eyes. The Bont is a lot more than 85kg in the book. We dont have an outside runner as big as MaCrae and their little blokes ie 183cm or less are a ball of muscle compared to our little blokes. We dont have a Clay Smith 181cm 85kg smash in type small forward. Impey would be the closest we have.

This thing in the US is really looking like a junket to me. NCAAF game, tailgating and clubbing. Oh they did look at the training facilities of Oregon too which I'm sure made them fitter.
I was wondering that too, is it a holiday or are they meant to be training? I thought it was meant to be the latter.

You do realise that if they said what they were actually doing the AFLPA would come down on the club like a tonne of bricks?

Besides, the program they are on can be done in the hotel room :p

If they were actually training, they wouldn't be on the cans either.

If it was an end of season trip, report it as such. Just don't say they are going there for specialised training when it's obvious that it's not.

Good to see Ollie get into a nightclub with a tanktop though. Red Square wouldn't allow that.

Going by this photo, Hartlett, Wingard, Wines, Clurey, Hombsch, Wines, Broadbent, Dixon, Boak, Sam Gray and (gasp!) O'Shea aren't any of the guys up for trade. Gray is in Hawaii at the moment and will be joining this group for the training you would suspect.

Theyve been all over snapchat and instagram on the trip. Looks like the boys are having fun. Seems like they even got involved amongst the tailgating at the Oregon Ducks game. Chad put up one of them out partying in a club. Theyd probably absolutely love the anonymity over there.

I agree, but why did the club promote this trip for training?

TBH I'd rather them letting their hair down and unwinding, but who is paying for it?

Burgess was standing in the back row - he wasn't holding any cans! It's a footy trip, bonding for a premiership next year. Hey to be fair Burgess will be flogging them soon enough and that will be that for another six 12 months....

Looks like they are "training" hard.

The AFLPA mandates that players can't return to preseason training until November 18. As I said, you won't ever find photos of them training or doing anything of the sort online.

Chad has been putting up plenty of gym content, so not all the training would be on the cans.

Burgess needs to be told his one and only priority is the physical welfare of the Power list.

His outside interests, eg that C grade Fox BS, need to be f***** off asap, and if he has an open clause in his contract that allows him to explore other revenue streams, that may be proof the club is not as well managed as we would like to think.

Still don't get why people care so much about what the players do on their holidays. And who cares if they put up some holidays snaps on Instagram. Honestly. They're not ******* robots.

"They're professionals, they don't have time for leisure, they should be 100% committed to improving!" says the person posting on a football forum between 9-5 when they're probably supposed to be working.

P.S. Yes, I should probably also be working
