    RD 2 Laidler report
  • Dylan Stephens
32 disposals, seven marks, seven tackles

"He ran hard both ways, he played a lot inside and played against some quality inside midfielders. He found plenty of the ball from start to finish."

    Sam Gray
    33 disposals, seven tackles

"He has been working really hard on his defensive movements, he was a little bit off on that but still managed to find a lot of the ball. He was really good inside."

    Ryan Clarke
    32 disposals, eight marks

"He has had a good couple of weeks, but his strength over the ball was a bit of a let down on the weekend but put some good numbers up."

    Colin O'Riordan
    31 disposals, six marks

"He started a little bit slow, but he is one of our more consistent players with his effort and intensity in and around the contest."

    ...

    Will Gould
19 disposals, one goal, five tackles

"He has played a good couple of games in the first two rounds of the VFL. He has been really consistent with his effort and just needs to continue to grow on his effort for a long period of time."

    James Bell
17 disposals, two goals, four tackles

"The stats didn't show that he had much of the ball but I thought he put in some really strong efforts. He played more forward than what he did inside, but he had some stints inside and was really strong with the ball."

    Matt Ling
    13 disposals, five marks

"He continues to build his game and work on his consistency with his defensive stuff. He is quite composed with the ball but it's an area he needs to work on."

    Joel Amartey
12 disposals, three goals, three tackles

"He played predominantly forward with some stints in the ruck. He'll continue to grow in his 1v1 contests."

RD 3 recap lost to Geelong 8.12.60 to 9.10.64
  • Best Players: R. Fox, M. Sheather, W. Gould, L. Taylor, K. Brand, S. Gray
That's obviously from the sportstg website, but who makes those choices?

Gould better than Taylor & Campbell?
    Certainly not in my view.

I'll be interested to read Laidler's report and compare his commentary to those votes. (NB; Recap below does not include his report).

RD 3 Laidler report (less detailed than weeks 1 & 2)
  • Laidler recap of the weekend's game.
Not surprisingly highlights Robbie Fox as "..a big stand out for the game."
Unfortunately doesn't give a player by player analysis as in previous weeks.

RD 4 v Casey Covid related postponement
  • Match Report
  • RD 5 recap beat Collingwood 12.14.86 to 8.5.53
  • RD 5 Laidler report ( no player by player critique)
  • Laidler's thoughts on our win over Collingwood;

Talks up Clarke & Amartey and welcomes back Naismith.
Unfortunately doesn't seem he'll go back to the player by player critique.

RD 6 Laidler report on loss to Casey 45-85
  • Laidler hopes to see Logan McDonald continue to thrive in the VFL after the young gun produced an impressive three-goal performance against the Demons.
"He's been in the VFL for a couple of weeks now, and it's about building his confidence now in what he's good at and building belief as to why he should be playing AFL," he said.
"His work-rate is his strength and it's just trying to add a few little tweaks so he can add a few more things to his game."
Meanwhile, fellow draftees Marc Sheather and Malachy Carruthers are also proving their worth and continuing to build on their strong pre-seasons respectively

RD 8 Laidler report on loss to Southport
  • Laidler's take on our 10.13.73-12.16.88 loss to Southport;

Laidler was impressed with the efforts of Hayden McLean, Colin O'Riordan, Kaiden Brand and Callum Sinclair who have been in and out of the senior squad in recent weeks.

He also gives call outs to Sheather and O'Connor.

Marc Sheather is putting in some really good games, he is playing his role to a tee and getting after the opposition. For a young kid to back up those performances is quite pleasing for his development..... Barry O'Connor played quite a consistent four-quarter game

Round 13 Laidler report on loss to Footscray

  • "It's just pleasing to have a whole group back together as well - we have that continuity and the gelling of the group."

"Logan McDonald's work rate was through the roof and he got rewarded with four goals and probably should have kicked a lot more," he (Laidler) said.
"But he presented all day, and it was really pleasing to see.

"I suppose you look at guys in the midfield liked Callum Sinclair, Dylan Stephens and Ryan Clarke who have played some really consistent games without all their team-mates, and then you throw in Sam Gray, Marc Sheather and Ben Ronke in there and it adds a huge difference.

James Rowbottom played three quarters and had a really consistent game. He went from contest to contest with his power and provided great leadership."
