As of the completion of Round 14 - my updated AA team:

DEF: S.DOCHERTY A.RANCE J.LEVER

H/BK: J.HOWE M.HURLEY R.LAIRD

C/Line: S.PENDLES T.MITCHELL A.GAFF

H/FWD: T.GREENE A.DANIHER R.GRAY

FWD: E.BETTS J.CAMERON L.FRANKLIN

F/WERS: B.GRUNDY P.DANGERFIELD Z.MERRETT

I/CHNG: D.MARTIN, G.ABLETT, , A.TRELOAR, E. YEO

I believe Kreuzer is having a purple patch, and is the best performing ruckman over the last 6-7 weeks, but over the course of the season (14 matches played) - i still would have Grundy/Martin ahead of Kreuzer.
I'm not sure Anthony Daniher is still looking for a gig and he was a defender anyway, but bold move all the same

I'd be on board with that. Not that I have followed his season specifically all that closely.

We pick guys like Gray, Wingard, Betts, Greene etc. but don't place much of an emphasis on the opponents that shut them down.

AA back 7?
Most teams have a rotation of 7 defenders so I like to incorporate that into the AA side. Using Essendon, we like to use Ambrose, Hartley, Hurley as the three talls when they're fit and McGrath, Baguley, McKenna and Kelly as the smaller defenders and Gleeson playing on a wing and sometimes in defence.

Most teams don't have AA squads to pick from.

Every team has bit part mid/fwd/def players that they'd sacrifice in a hurry to get an AA quality mid in.

Funnily, I wouldnt have any Port Adelaide player in the AA 22 at this stage even Gray. Too many quiet games.

I didn't have Gray initially but I wasn't keeping up with the competition. He is by far and away leading the league total goals + goal assists. He's the best small forward in the league this season despite having some down games.

People are obsessed with getting the highest disposal players into the back 6.

Most teams are Rance + 1 of Hurley or McGovern + 4 high possession players. A team with Laird, Docherty, Howe and Yeo playing back would probably get slaughtered. Alex Rance leads the comp with 139 1%ers. Laird has 20. Docherty 35. Howe 55. Yeo 34. Out of all these guys I'd say Howe is the most defensively minded, and even he is an attacking defender. I'd be going with the 3 key defenders. You'd take Rance or McGovern playing as the third tall over Howe or Yeo any day of the week.
Yeo hasn't played as a third tall all year. We've either played with three KPD's, or Shep as the third tall.

Wow, Ben McEvoy! Didn't see that coming. Not saying he isn't worthy, just surprised. I haven't watched much of Hawks this year. Haven't heard him talked up much either.

You could mount a case for some of the players that missed out, but equally I think it's hard to argue any of the guys in there don't belong.

Has had an incredible year. Last year the talk was that he had lost his passion and would retire. This year, despite us playing so badly, he has been great.

In other news, Ryan Burton made his 2nd team of the week.

I've got Kreuzer in the ruck at the moment, is having a ripping year.
Followed very closely by Ryder who has given the Port mids great service this year.
If Gawn plays out the year as he did on Saturday night he may actually force his way into the squad but I think he'll have missed too many games to pip either of those guys.

This is a totally made up statement. He has been performing at this level since Round 1.

You're clearly just guessing about Kruezer. Witts beat him at Etihad in the first few rounds other than that he started year off really well. Just with all players that haven't made AA before takes time to be recognised. But Grundy has had a pretty good year also.
Kreuzer injured himself that game. Before he got injured, he was on top of Witts and dominated him 2 weeks ago

Just noticed another game where both Ryder (3) and Kreuzer (5) scored coaches votes. Putting Kreuzer ahead by 2 of Ryder and miles ahead of the next ruckman. The ruck spot has to go to one of them 2.

Yeah I'm saying that is the only game in the first few rounds he didn't play the way he is now whether through injury or not. He has been super consistant all season this isn't just a "purple" patch.

Gawn can play a maximum of 13 games, surely he won't be near the squad.
Yeah you are probably right.
If he dominates the way he did last year though for the remaining games and can get the better of both Kreuzer and Ryder who he is yet to play this year then I think he'll go close to making the squad. The fact he is the reigning AA ruckman may hold a bit of weight as guys tend to have credits in the bank by making the side in previous years IMO.

Isn't it his 3rd?

Round 8, 10 and 14.

McEvoy has been OK as a marking target and has played pretty well at times but as a ruckman is nowhere near AA IMO, and has had his pants pulled down really badly on a few occasions too.

Yep. For me it should be Rance, Hurley and Talia as the talls then 4 medium/smalls in Laird, Docherty, Yeo and Hibberd IMO.

Lever in for Talia

He's been better this season and he's a better mark

Impossible to split the smalls

Ryder has polled Coaches votes in 9 of his 13 games (missed 1 through suspension).
