Aneurin Bevan quote.

Feigning sympathy for the underprivileged then screwing them is the Conservatives modus operandi. So many of those adversely affected by their policies fall for it. Go figure.

*Howard's battlers*
This process pre-dates even the 20th century - Lord Randolph Churchill and "Tory Democracy".

In Australia, Menzies had it down to a fine art.

Seems they do things differently in Holland when the Govt finds out it has been screwing welfare recipients. But then again perhaps their govt actually understands the concept of MUTUAL OBLIGATION.

Wow. The contrast could not be more marked.

Remind me again how many Coalition politicians went to jail over Robodebt?

someone held accountable.
Imagine that.

It's polarising really.

A lot of coalition MP's genuinely believe they're doing God's work. Look at the names in Scummo's kitchen cabinet/prayer circle, it's like a white trash Taliban

So the party which made a big deal about school halls and $900 cheques to dead people had squandered $200 billion on COVID stimulus which hasn’t even worked?

And now trying to present it as a reason to crack down on welfare recipients? I’d like to say I’m surprised

So Aussie adults should have an average $10 grand extra in their ‘offset’ accounts? I think someone else got mine

Or divided by $50 grand, would have put 4 million extra students through uni

How is there not mass outrage over this?

Are the die hards starting to waver?

The conservatives I know are all mad about this indirectly because they want to go overseas for holidays and get back in. I'd say that'll be what drives it.

Total demolition of another hopeless arrogant dcikhead member of this government full of hopeless arrogant dcikheads.

.
The far right is a fertile ground for this strand of the LNP. It gives them:
* Boomer votes.
* Bodies for branch stacking.

The only thing that would stop people like Christensen or McCormack cultivating the boomerwaffen is a sense of shame. They seem to have none.

If the LNP thought they could go the full Trump and get away with it they would.

Correct!

Still just don't get why the so-called battlers support the Liberals who, at almost every turn, have taken action that is antithetical to their best interests but in the interests of the plutocracy.

Just watched an interview with Bernie Sanders on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Bernie said his greatest concern about the aftermath of US election was not the empathic confirmation that Trump is a congenital liar and demagogue but that so many Americans voted for him. Especially those in poor neighbourhoods who are the very people most adversely affected by Trump enriching the wealthy at their cost.

Worth a read.

They've successfully convinced people that it's other people's fault they don't have the life they want and those who they wish to blame are typically the one's who are actually fighting their corner.

no one wants to talk about these points:

lowest wage growth in history despite company profits increasing by well over 50% overall and doubling for manufacturing and mining since 2013

Increasingly tenuous employment with contract, casual, part-time and gig economy jobs on the rise with the subsequent loss of workplace protection. Underemployment is a huge problem at well over 10%.

When you get your talking points from Murdoch and you're more concerned about immigrants and greenies why would you, remember the pitiful squeals of those who used to be concerned about defict spending? That was meant to be paid off in their first year of government. Leadership instability too, Australians hate that we were told. NBN was a waste of money too.

Am guessing the “back in black” mugs are gathering dust in a cupboard somewhere.

underemployment is on the rise... Aust has one of the highest rates for part time employment in OECD and not one thing muttered about this.

And our Jewish Treasurer can't bring himself to denounce neo Nazis.
