Unfortunately none of the 3 games tomorrow will get what you predicted, I think the Demons game will be lucky to crack 20k even with the Swans significant Melbourne following and the Freo game will probably be a tick under 35k.

Not sure on the Bombers game but 38k seems pretty optimistic as well.

last time we played Port in that timeslot was RD 23 2011 and drew 34k and both teams were doing worse than they are now, Port were 16th on the ladder and Essendon were 8th, so 38k seems pretty spot on estimate to me.

Wouldn't be surprised if we drew even more than 38k to the match. Two top-8 sides, and both with winning form. Will be interesting.

Plus it was about 10 degrees at Manuka yesterday, the crowd did well to turn up all rugged up in winter gear with the occasional wind.

Yep, you can call the 7k the absolute baseline crowd at Manuka. Unlikely to get a less appealing match in less hospitable conditions over the next few years.

Main point - the Carlton Collingwood rivalry is not the biggest in the game anymore.
The Geelong/Hawthorn rivalry is the biggest of the current time, but it will eventually fade away. Pies/Blues is the biggest traditional rivalry in Australian club sport. It will always be there.

What if there is another grand final this year? That would consolidate the rivalry for a long long time, especially if the hawks win it.

Collingwood carlton games have been crap for a while now...For such a huge rivalry theres not a lot of feeling between the 2 teams out on the field --Large crowd does not = the biggest rivalry--

It's been on for 6 years now and even before 2008 the rivalry was notable in the 1980s and 1990s. If it hasn't asserted itself as an enduring rivalry already, another GF would certainly do the trick...imagine if Hawthorn broke the streak in the GF, that'd give the rivalry another boost again!

FWIW the last 11 home and away matches between the clubs have drawn an average gate of 73,000 plus...for a non big 4 clash that's unprecedented

10C is standard temperature at this time of year so no excuse for the locals not to turn out because of the weather, that's about as good as it gets in Canberra this time of year.

But the difference is the sunshine - at the same (low) temperature it makes it feels much warmer. Last few days have been really wintry even by Canberra standards ... anyway back to the footy!!

Thing is until friday posters were saying the size of crowds is the ultimate proof
