What if there is another grand final this year? That would consolidate the rivalry for a long long time, especially if the hawks win it.
How is the WC/Sydney rivalry these days? Not what it once was IMO. Non traditional rivalries tend to be dependant on the fortunes of the teams.

10C is standard temperature at this time of year so no excuse for the locals not to turn out because of the weather, that's about as good as it gets in Canberra this time of year.

Not entirely true. It's like that this week, but Canberra still gets a lot of sunny days in winter which keeps the 10am-4pm period okay. The manuka game on the weekend was pretty bleak though. I live only 0.5km from the stadium, went for a walk straight after the game, and it was deathly cold. The crowd at the ground were also noticeably more rugged up than usual.

Funny how that happens, 8 feels like 0, the apparent temperature tells the tale. About 2° at game time yesterday.

Yeah, it's tolerable if the weather is very still. But wind makes it awful. I notice wind picks up in Canberra winter afternoons, so I usually become a morning exerciser during winter here.

It's been on for 6 years now and even before 2008 the rivalry was notable in the 1980s and 1990s. If it hasn't asserted itself as an enduring rivalry already, another GF would certainly do the trick...imagine if Hawthorn broke the streak in the GF, that'd give the rivalry another boost again!

FWIW the last 11 home and away matches between the clubs have drawn an average gate of 73,000 plus...for a non big 4 clash that's unprecedented

You reckon !-i think if that happened there would be a lot of Geelong supporters jumping off the West Gate Bridge

Current record is 367,974. Round 22, 1998
Pies V Blues 78K
Hawks V Cats 85K
Lions V Suns 27K
Giants V Dogs 7K
Roos v Tiges 47K
Crows v Eagles 27K
That's over 269k already.
So...
Dockers v Saints 38K
Dons v Power 38K
Dees v Swans 23K
Breaks the record
Should be achievable.

Boy O Boy WOW WEEEE!!!!

Must be a slow bigfooty day

LOL @ potential highest aggregate crowd ever including GWS vs WB at Manuka.
The record includes 15K at the Gabba - not too dissimilar. The "highest lowest" crowd for a round is 31,700; RD 11 2004. No game in that round passed 45K.
Round 1, 2007 the only one with six 40K+

Dees v swans got 26 k. 3k over your prediction. Dockers saints looks fairly decent so the record is a real chance

The Geelong/Hawthorn rivalry is the biggest of the current time, but it will eventually fade away. Pies/Blues is the biggest traditional rivalry in Australian club sport. It will always be there.

The only reason it's still there is because the media beats it up.

That is a ridiculous statement. Pies/Blues has a lot more history than Hawks/Cats. The supporters hate for each other goes back generations. It was carlton who originally gave up one match to allow Collingwood to enter the VFA. Hawks/Cats will never be anything like Pies/Blues.
