Anyone who thinks we are getting anything other than a slight pick upgrade for Ellard is kidding themselves, there are a million David Ellards on AFL lists and in the state leagues. He isn't part of the next Premiership 22, Bell might be, move him on so there is a spot for Bell.

Except I don't think it's between Ellard and Bell.

What happens with Curnow will be the main factor in all this Tom Bell stuff, barring many trades.

Although I am one to create fairly unrealistic trade scenarios in my head.

Agree with this, was responding to the people who were talking about a pick in the high 20s for Ellard. No chance.

trade needs to happen. I'd expect a second rounder.

Too bad we look like losing Bell and there is nothing we can do about it, is there? After all, the Western Bulldogs are going to offer him a spot on their list for 2 or 3 years and that is something we can't match.

Just because he plays for us already, it's not like we are in a good position to secure his services. He may think that because he's wanted by other teams and that he was voted best first year player that he shouldn't have to serve another year on our rookie list. Just who does he think he is? Well, we have our set policies and our pride and nothing will get in the way of that. He can either take what we offer him, or leave!

He has shown loads of potential and is the kind of player we need and want, but that doesn't mean we should treat him any differently to other rookies. He might have won 'best first year player' and in doing so beaten Casboult (wasn't he just given a two-year contract?), but that is beside the point. Besides that, we are happy with our list and we are not going to delist anyone of lesser quality just to make way for him.

So yeah, let's trade him for a second rounder and with that pick let's get a player we really need, like a big-bodied mid with a huge tank, even though we will have to delist one of players with mediocre skills, e.g. Davies, so we would be able to use that pick. That makes a whole lot of sense to me.

If, after having the chance to develop at WB for a couple of years, he does turn out to be the gun many think he will be, we still might be able to get him back by trading a first rounder plus a player or two for him, so let's get the deal done!

No way do I want to get rid of Bell. Who says we'll lose him? Just because the Bulldogs offered him a spot on their list doesn't mean he'd want to go there. Why would you? Think of the long term, Bulldogs going nowhere, stay at Carlton under Malthouse. I know which option I'd be choosing.

Ahhh you got me. Was about to shoot back broadly lambasting your idiocy, but you are in fact taking the piss...arent you?...

I might make myself unpopular here but I seriously can't believe this talk of a second rounder for Ellard. Do some people think the recruiters at other clubs are on drugs? If anyone gives us anything like that for Ellard, I will give it away. Frankly, I don't think there would be any interest at all. As for Curnow, easy decision for mine - Curnow or Bell? Bye bye Ed

Ahh someone like Tom Bell

The stalemate at Essendon with Monfries has started a few whispers about a link to Carlton

Warnock has been touted as a possible trade
