Apart from a semi joe the goose goal early in the 1st Q, Kosi Pickett had not much impact on the game really, despite coming in on a streak of hot form, so, despite all the criticism, well done WilPhil, Melksham and Fritsch however, both had a day out, i'm not sure our backline would be worse without Logue or Daniel in there

You do care mate. Why you're here.
We all care. Too much.
It's pitiful what has happened to this team and even wider club.
We fought to survive for this level of acceptance of ineptitude?
I wish I could just throw in towel and walk away, but 50 years of passion won't let me.
I watch games with little excitement and expecting nothing but disappointment. I made my kids North fans and I feel sorry for them.
It's depressing and I used to think North gave their supporters more value for money than any other club. We fought always, even when we weren't good.
We're in a hole that evidence suggests we don't know how to get out of.
And what really frustrates me is the wider acceptance of this as just being a step in the journey.
I firmly believe that until we actually address the root reasons behind our decline we won't turn it around.
And there seems to be little stomach for that.

A full rebuild, Geelong style. Or else hand in the licence. North needs to get serious. Wtf are they doing?

We’re an excuse factory.

3 years ago we were expected to be far ahead of Hawthorn and Adelaide. Well, look at them now. And look at us. Still making micro excuses week upon week. Macro excuses for being bottom 3 yet again.

Just a shitful organisation and honestly, the only way for it not to get you down is to either check out or watch kind of neutrally with no expectation.

Have to agree scottywiper. We have $2mil of extra experience out there to win games like the Dees. Daniel, Parker and Darling. Tbh they have all played well and given 100%. We can pick apart their effectiveness, especially Daniel, but they have given 100%. So that means yet another crap season is on the rest of the players and the coaching group. Can't see any other explanation. The high draft picks have not stood up another level (OK, there are flashes) but we haven't won enough games for mine and we probably have two chances left. So where to from here? I honestly don't know and I despair at what our club has become. On-field leadership doesn't not exist. Our captain laughs and giggles (LMac'esque) after a loss like this weekend. I just don't see the players hurting after losses. Winning has not been a priority to the team for 5 years. Losing becomes acceptable. We are in that rut. Players get paid their big bucks whether they win or lose. is it all off-field? I value your opinion Scotty - what can we do? How do we make the Club want to win again?

Somehow today I don’t feel annoyed. I just accept that this team is shit and probably won’t get better.

It's certainly a distinct possibility.

We've had 2 eras. One built on money and one on having the greatest player to ever play the game plus a coach that knew what buttons to press.

The professionalism of the game went into overdrive while we we battling to survive.

"Money" is never going to happen to us again. What's the chances of us finding a Carey/Pagan combination? How many win tatts twice?

What do you do? Give up? Declare it hopeless? Shut the doors?

A lot of us are born into this, so we won't give up. The 20's and 30's would have been grim. The campaigners from Essendon even blocked us getting in. There couldn't have been much colder than '65 at Coburg and the early 70's. Carlton's attempted takeover in '89 was no fun.

The last 6 years certainly takes some topping though.

Let’s be honest Simpkin in his current form is anti Captain material.

So many times when you need your Captain to stand up, this guy does the opposite with a game changing clanger.

I’m not sure who should be Captain, but as time goes on, Simpkin is exactly screaming out as the leader we hoped he be.

This side needs someone that stands up and screams follow me.

When’s the last time you saw leaders on the field do something to inspire the rest of the group? Most of the time they are front and centre of the shit your pants moments that result in teams getting a run on against us.

I have no inside info on this. But one wonders if the board asks hard questions of footy dept.
Clarko and Viney are imposing characters, as were Scotts and Joyces.
But you can't just hand them the keys and say our job is done . Clarkson has been a great coach but is not faultless. He needs to be challenged by others at times.
Does this happen?
Are there people on the board who will step up and say , hey we can't be trading a first round pick. No we can't bring Daniel Howe out of retirement.
Clearly there are people at club who aren't getting the job done and apparently they are untouchable.
That's not the recipe for success..
Afl is a ruthless sport.

In modern era of football it is easier to stay on top of the ladder than it is to climb it. Without the ability to attract high end free agents and trade targets (e.g. Adelaide) the climb to competitiveness is longer than ever.

What happens if you guys finish bottom 2 again this year? Do we hand back the keys? Bottom 3 would be bad enough, but bottom 2 could be a death nail in the coffin.
The club seriously can't hang its hat on the womens program can it? Not on Clokey's watch.

Imagine playing 4 tall defenders. In today’s day and age.
We played four tall defenders because Archer, Bergman, Lmac, Tucker, Goater and Ford are all injured or one week back from injury.

If Lmac had been fit instead of Logue we'd have had a better backline. Same with Archer and probably a couple of others.

He had as many touches as Will and kicked a goal. He basically kicked 1.5 goals less than he's averaged for the last month and had as much influence on the game otherwise.

I don’t think we have to strike the lottery to be successful again. We don’t have to be huge and imposing as a club to be a force again. We just need to expect from ourselves what should be basically expected from a professional organisation. We don’t need to be Collingwood. Small is fine. Backs to the wall is great. GWS, Dogs, St Kilda (recent history), to a lesser extent Hawks are all smaller clubs that just get in and do what they need to do. We’ve got no ruthless edge at all.

You do what North supporters have done in all but those two decades, what Swans and Melbourne supporters did for 50+ years, what Dogs and Saints supporters have done for almost their entire histories. You pay for your ticket and you show up for the ride.

I’ve watched broadcast VFL and VFLW games much more recently and wondered more than once whether I’ll just ditch my membership in the senior men’s comp and follow the rest of the club. But I haven’t and I dare say I won’t. As long as there is an AFL and North Melbourne is in it, and I’m still breathing, I’ll be there supporting them. I get if not everyone does, but I’m in for good and bad.

This endless cycle of one step forward, two steps back is becoming so frustrating and exhausting.

I could see some improvement with wins against the Eagles and Carlton, a good showing against Freo and then bad losses to the Dogs and Hawks. I had my hopes up ever so slightly thinking we could / should win against the Dees who hadn't won in the last 5 games and we're just so disappointing.

We were let down by the match committee, ordinary coaching, poor decisions, skill errors, turnovers and the never ending inability to stop an opposition run on again.

This result has hit me way worse than the thumping by the Hawks as these are the exact type of games we need to be winning if were to rise up the ladder and to put in such a poor performance is demoralising.

Whilst I'm happy with say how well Cooper Harvey played I'm sick and tired of trying to find the silver lining in every single loss, it's depressing.

The improvements are there, I know, but they're so incremental and there are still so many things to address I am beginning to wonder if we'll ever get to a point of being competitive again.

I'm really starting to question the whole football department. I think Clarko's way past his best and the talent identification, both draft and trade, is hit and miss at best.

Trying my best not to let my love turn to hate, I guess for now I've gotta keep the faith.

But when we beat Carlton in the AFL & VFL, I read on here about how unreal our depth was. It was finally coming together. Please don't tell me that's not the case. I don't think I can handle any more bad news after finding out about Biggy's sudden departure & then Mr Bubbles rubbing his hands together out the back at the Punt Rd end.

You campaigners haven't even played Carlton yet.

Maybe piss off to your own board.

Agree with that. Took all the kids yesterday when I normally only take 1 & maybe it was the air of optimism & expectation but really thought we’d come away with a win. I’m a glass 1/2 full but it’s seriously exhausting. Yesterday was brutal.

Old Mate had it in hand. Just a casual glance back at the crowd and she was applies. :stern look

We can't survive as the 'battler' club in a modern day environment. It just won't happen. I know some bemoan that we've lost that identity but the huge influx of money and social media influence on the sport means that you simply can't compete in any serious capacity anymore by punching above your weight.
It worked in a semi-professional league full of people who also had day jobs and played in no small part due to their love of the game, but it doesn't with full time career footballers. For every player who burns on the inside with each and every loss there are 10 more just happy to have a contract and playing to extend their careers as long as possible.

I just honestly don't see how we can possibly compete with bigger clubs in the league going forward, unless everything clicks and we become an absolute powerhouse out of nowhere (not to mention somehow managing to convert that into long term intergenerational appeal) we will always be fighting for the scraps left over from the Collingwoods/Geelongs/Richmonds/Hawthorns of the league. Bullshit off the books financial stuff aside, players go to those clubs because they want to win.

Unfortunately the league (and world sport in general) is a totally different beast these days. IMO there is no precedent for the current situation we are in.
