they are young and raw , against a seasoned monster ..
I've been impressed with both our backup rucks this year - I thought Steene showed great resilience early in the year when he was battling it out single handedly against stronger and older rucks, week in and week out. He's got the makings of an AFL level forward Ruck, good hands, good kick and can ruck. Begg has shown growth each year, still reckon that he doesn't fit nicely into a traditional football position (a bit like Geelong's Blicavs) - a challenge for our coaching staff to mould a role for him. Love his added physicality this year and he's retained his good hands in the contest.

Whilst Begg and Steene are young, we also need rucks who could step up to AFL level if needed and neither would be able to compete. I'd rather have Frampton as a back than have him a part-time ruck.

If list management was up to me, I'd poach a seasoned monster and replace Begg.

I would not Replace Begg but I would for a Descent Mature Ruck so Begg and Don't Need to be Rushed

There's a saying in the stock market about letting your profits run - I'd liken that to Begg, whilst he continues to improve, persist and develop. I don't see a need for another mature ruckman unless we're going to delist/trade Cox or Cameron.

Agreed, with Frampton able to do an adequate job if Cox/Cameron go down, there really isn't a need to invest a valuable list spot on a mature ruck to play VFL all 2024.

long as Frampton don't play as a Forward

Frampton is an invaluable spare parts player - has held down the key back position and played well, moved into a key forward role and kicked goals and performed well when asked to ruck. Will be interesting to see if we look at him becoming a specialist or sticking with the spare parts role.

I thought the club was supposed to be looking at the Bulldogs VFL ruck,I think the season has been a bit long for young Oscar as said before he has had to ruck solo earlier in the year and it has taken its toll at the end of the season.

you actually said you were surprised anyone cared about the vfl, or the vfl team. Or something like that. Nothing about the result.

totally different meaning.
Wrong. I said this, “No offence to the VFL team, but I’m surprised anyone cares about this result.”

Would have been good experience for him though, this year having to ruck solo for a decent chunk. But can't see us targeting a third ruck to play VFL. But suppose it'll depend what their plans for Begg are. But reckon Sweet will go somewhere he is more likely to get game time. Very doubt we could offer him that.

Oscars has done a fine job firstly by himself then in tandem with Aiden, Oscar has had knee bound up recently and you tell that the season has been a long one for him but boy am I glad we recruited him, can fly with the best of them good hands and a fine kick.

Begg has been very good recently, starting to take his mark and very good when the ball is in dispute or on the ground.

They do work well together with a mixture of ruck and forward. Aiden has even played in defence when needed, and done well there too.

He won't be selected against Melbourne.

Actually wouldn't be a terrible idea. He was on GWS' list for a while and is a big body that could fill in at AFL level in an injury crisis and probably hold his own. We do have Frampton but my issue with using Billy is we need him as depth in defence.

I personally don't feel Aiden is that special in defence. Not compared to others. His game against Richmond was an anomaly for his forward craft, too. Normally, I'm in trouble for overrating VFL performances but I don't see it with Begg.

His one unique talent is tackling. He is a very good tackler, particularly for a tall.
