What has changed for the VFLW 2022 season?
Official start date will be February 12, far earlier than the 2021 VFL Women’s season
The AFLW and AFLW-aligned clubs only select FIVE – down from six – under-22 development players each week
The requirement from the four standalone clubs – Darebin, Essendon, Hawthorn and Williamstown – is to field THREE under-22 development players
Indigenous players yet to make their VFL Women’s debuts can be signed as Category B development players

What are the other rules around team selection and list management for the VFLW 2022 season?
VFL Women’s standalone clubs can sign up to 40 players
AFLW clubs can sign up to 30 non-AFLW listed players during the AFLW home and away season
All 12 VFLW teams are allowed up to 15 AFLW players on their lists once the AFLW season is complete
VFL Women’s players must play at least one home-and-away match to qualify for finals
AFLW players must play at least three home-and-away matches to qualify for finals
The salary cap remains at $40,000 for standalone clubs and $30,000 for AFLW-aligned clubsConcessions of up to $10,000 allowed to help players with travelling and relocation.

STREAMING
All VFLW matches will be live video streamed each week.
1 match each week will be the feature game on AFL.com.au while the remaining 5 games will be on YouTube - some carrying the WARF Radio or Casey Radio commentary feed.

The season opener against Essendon at The Hangar in Tullamarine will be live on Saturday from 11.30am on WARFRadio.com and from 12.30pm on YouTube.

I just heard them sat on the broadcast that a Melbourne player played in the VFLW this morning and them had to play in the AFLW match after a late withdrawal.

How many of the Dogs VFLW team this morning were AFLW players, because that scoreline is horrendous if we had AFLW players in our team.

We had 0. See my next post for full details.

Very tough day and no excuses but it should be noted just how inexperienced our team was today.

Career VFLW Games (Average)
WB: 140 (7)
ES: 504 (24)

Essendon also had 5 former AFLW players with a combined 61 games experience. We had 0.

We had 15 players with 10 VFLW games or fewer under their belt along with 8 debutants. Essendon had 4 with 3 debutants.

Not sure why we didn’t play any listed players, was it COVID or just our injuries?

Can confirm WB VFLW side trained once this week. they had a recovery bike/gym session on Monday and then a big on ground session Thursday night, 2 days before the next game.

Is the club serious about their VFLW program? sounds like a joke when other clubs are training 3 nights a week
