Much of the same thanks.
Harris needs time in the middle to regain form, a test spot is on the line.

CA won’t want him dropped
Maddinson likewise they won’t want dropped.

Maybe 1-2 changes from today but nothing drastic. Would probably replace Tremain tbh
I look at our top 6 on paper and our bowlers and I don't understand how we're playing so badly? Is it just that most of our gun bats have hit a rough patch at the same time? And yeah, Tremain's bowling has been well below last year. At least Coleman's now inserted himself as a white ball specialist for this comp.

We’ve always been slow starters, let’s not forget we were pretty poor last year and came good only at the end.

Probably because a lot of our batsmen have been playing in England over winter and will take time to adjust

Haha maybe I was a bit OTT... Anyway, we have a Shield game starting Thursday week where apparently Siddle and Gotch might be fit to play. Going to be a tough selection. Our second XI have completed 2 days of the four against Queensland. It's fair to say things aren't exactly peachy, we got rolled for 190 (Eamonn Vines 84, Mackenzie Harvey 41, Dean failing with 12) and they're currently 2/346 with Bryce Street currently on 205*, Fekete and Reed the wicket takers. My side for the first game:

Marcus Harris
Nic Maddinson
Will Pucovski
Peter Handscomb (c)
Glenn Maxwell
Aaron Finch
Sam Harper (+)
James Pattinson
Chris Tremain
Scott Boland
Jon Holland

I'm working under the assumption neither Gotch nor Siddle are fit to play, and even if they were I think CV might prefer them to play for Melbourne and Dandy respectively.

I would be fine with this XI
Hardest one to leave out was Short. Pretty much everyone in the top 6 should be on notice. Grade games on Saturday could be crucial. Of that first 14 I think we have:

St. Kilda (Harris, Maddinson, Handscomb) vs Greenvale
Melbourne (Pucovski, Harper, Tremain, Gotch?, Coleman (not that he's FC relevant)) vs Ringwood
Monash Tigers vs Fitzroy Doncaster (Maxwell)
Geelong (Finch) vs Camberwell
Northcote (Short) vs Frankston Peninsula (Boland, Holland)
Dandenong (Pattinson, Siddle?) vs Melbourne University

Hoping Zak Evans plays for Ringwood and tests out Puck and Harps, Gotchy if he's playing too. If Short bats well against Boland and Holland he could go a long way to securing his spot.

If Maxwell fails 1st shield game or throws his wicket away again perhaps his spot not safe in the shield team.Played far to much cricket this year for me and should have had a break after the Word Cup and re charge the batteries. So much talent and should be playing test cricket for Australia but those days seem gone.

I like your side we can not play Dean he still can not make a run....and when Max makes no runs again Sutherland could take his spot he looks alright with the bat and mite take M Marshs spot in the future

Maybe, maybe not. I'll back him in, he still has the highest average in the squad and his best is the best in the side.

2nd XI are 2/84 (Dean and Vines out on 7 and 34 respectively) against Queensland, trailing by 371 runs at stumps on day 3. We currently trail Bryce Street by 71, the guy made 345. Basically we have 8 guys who need to face a combined 576 balls tomorrow and probably 475 need to be faced by Merlo, Harvey, Newman, Fraser-McGurk and Rowe at a minimum.

Would like to see Sutherland get a Shield game or 2 pretty soon. Maybe not the first one but certainly this season.
Can honestly see him being the 5th quick in line.

We're gonna lose but Jake Fraser-McGurk is on 73* at lunch, hopefully he gets to the ton. As it stands it's his highest score in senior cricket (Victoria and Monash Tigers). Batting allrounder who bowls a bit of leg spin.
