Is Morris ready to return next week?
I saw him play yesterday, he was ok. I don't think he needs to be rushed in but it would be nice to have him back so he can take the best mid to small forward and even take Riewoldt if he gets off the chain.

He's just a gun, so he'll be back soon.

Just want to mention a brilliant tackle Wallis laid about 10 mins into the third (that led to a goal). In one fast, smooth motion he knocks the ball out of the lions hand with the slightest detour as he wraps his arm around for the tackle.

It's actually something I've notice a bit this year is our players targeting the ball in tackles and near tackles to force it to spill.

I have not watched the replay yet, but my thoughts on the game from being there are pretty much that we never looked like losing, but I feared we were not going to belt them like we should. In the end we belted them. We didn't play our best footy, we gave them a lot of easy scoring chances through poor turnovers and kept them in it.

That said, we take the game on, and that can open you up at times. I love that we take the game on.

Tom Boyd shut up an obnoxious port fan in front of me who bagged him mercilessly about being the million dollar man. Not sure why a port fan at bris v dogs game cared so much about TB , but he went very quiet. Thank god it was going to get ugly had he kept going.

He is getting on and we've got a lot of guys that deserve to play in that back six. So nobody asking the question is out of line, imo.

But it was his first week back from a pretty restrictive injury, and he's come back from snapping his leg in two before, so I'll give him some time and the benefit of the doubt.

What did you make of Talia's game today?

Pretty ordinary actually. His best and worst a long way apart

Talia had a bad one sorry to say. Really out of form.

Loved Murph potting the media for saying "the heat is on Tom Boyd".

Have to agree with Bev that we need to improve a lot. That first half we were running around like headless chooks. We won't get away with that again.

Loved grants game. Was an awesome link up player.

Went to the game and have just finished watching the replay. I feel replete :)

Best game I've seen from Grant (maybe Carlton late 2013) but pretty close to the complete midefield connector. Terrific stuff. One year contracts for this bloke forever more.

Most complete game I've seen from Toyd. Terrific marking and looked like he could be a great CHF if he got his aerobic capacity up. Would be a waste given he will be a 50 goal FF but it was great to see his versitility - hadn't really seen it before outside of his being thrown in the ruck. He deserved 5. Damn shame about the miss as it would have shoved a fist up the painful parts of the media...

Stringer - wow. We all saw it. The guy is ridiculous. Has no right to kick goals like he does. Mere mortal players just watch and admire. Loved the story from Moz about his "watch me kick it" arrogance from impossible angles at training as well. Lol'ed.

Maclean was terrific but Webb needs more love. He did a few things that made me go "who the f is number 19 again?" Jespers he can kick.

Based on the VFL I could drop Hrovat and bring in Caleb. Might as we'll play the 4 of these little gems together - Hamilton seems further off. Just think Hrovat still slightly lacks the class of the others and Caleb brings it in spades. Also replaces the Warriors of Middle Earth like for like.

Man I love games like this. Just so satisfying :)
I agree with bringing in Caleb this week. He's able to play that small forward/high half role well. Watching the vfl on the weekend he lifted big time in the fourth. One particular play did it for me where he burst from a stoppage and you can just see his eyes darting around everywhere to find the best option before lowering his eyes and hitting a leading forward on a 15 meter pass inside 50. No afl half back would like playing against him either cause he's basically a midfielder so he's got a high workrate and he'll get involved in passages of play through midfield. I feel he's better suited to the role than Hrovat.

Agree with hrovat too, he just isn't dangerous enough forward and doesn't play enough midfield. Can't have that when also playing dale and Mclean. First half our half forwards were terrible. I like him but want to see him kill the vfl playing midfield first. Honeychurch is far ahead imo

The small man thing is all about roles IMO.

Mclean is the best goal-kicking forward.

Hrovat is the best combo mid

Honey is the best pressure/defensive forward

Daniel is the best link man and ball user.

Pick who we need on a week to week basis. See it as a strength rather than a weakness.

I still can't see it with Hrovat Fronk. Hate to talk down any of our players but he and Honeychurch are going to struggle to play much more than 50 games for us I think. Too much competition from other small forwards/mids whose finishing skills are better.

The ability to kick the ball well to targets inside 50 is so vital for any player, but is a non-negotiable for the small forwards. This is where Hrovat and Honeychurch will be behind McLean, Dale, Daniel and (if he can get his head right) Hunter.

First quarter wasn't as bad as first thought. Had a horror five minutes of turnovers but apart from that a pretty good quarter (can't complain about winning a quarter by twenty points).

Just getting around to watching the press conference now. Man I love listening to Bev speak.

"We should be really satisfied, but...we wanna be fussy cos we wanna be better. As much as the scoreboard tells us it was a convincing win, we just didn't feel that way throughout the course of the night." :thumbsu:

Found it funny that 3AW were going on about how it's harder for one team coming off a bye playing a team who isn't and saying that could have been what happened to Brisbane. My memory is bad but didn't we have a bye last week as well? :P

Yep, both we and Lions had the bye last week. Ill-informed commentary from the footy media for a change.

Hrovat hasn't been up to it since day one and only excuses have gotten him this far.

As I've continually said tiny players must be elite in at least one aspect to compensate ie Harvey goal sense, Libba Snr heart and so on

Hrovat is simply an ok footballer that is not elite at anything and will never make it at AFL level

Just sitting down with a coffee to watch the replay so this should be a good morning :)

I'm not sure that I'd state it as strongly as you Matt but we agree that Hrovat is unlikely to be best 22 next season for us.

As to whether he will make an AFL footballer, he has already played 25 games for us and will probably play more. He is of AFL standard, and, if he is not on our list in two years he will be on some other AFL team's. Hrovat will be a 100+ game AFL player but if he does make it that far he'll be playing a lot of them with some other team in my view.

Have to back up others and mention Macraes inside work. Yep his kicking hasn't been as good as it can this year, but with Jack's willingness to improve I don't see that being an ongoing issue in the long term. His handballing in tight is absolutely first rate. His body work has improved out of sight as well, remarkable improvement to become the inside player he has.

Very good win. Grant was really good is a natural wingman, ditto Murphy, Boyd, Boyd, Stringer, Wallis, Macrae lots of really good contributors

MCLEAN IS GOD :p
Thats exactly what he will be, because he will get more opportunities to kick raking goals on the run also that he seems better at. plus his handball and ball use in around the ground is very classy.
