I think that we can all agree that us upper-crust Collingwood folk and you Carlton ferals will be both hoping for a Richmond win tonight.

I don't mind saying Pies may well be better, but the great thing about this game is if you can hang around thereabouts, on any given day you can get one over the opposition if enough goes right.

Pies could be better all season, only to face us in a Grand Final and lose, you'd take that.

Carlton is the better team at the moment imo. Marginally ahead on overall season results, but the gap is bigger looking at more recent results and because of Collingwood's inability to field a team I would favor vs. a top 8 side (or even mid range sides, like WB). While the Carlton side has been beating top 8 side.
In fact, since Collingwood beat Carlton (which was its last W vs. a top 8 team), Carlton has played 4 games in a row vs. top 8 (at the time) opponents, 3 of those them top 4 opponents.... for 3-1 record (2-1 vs. top 4). The only loss was to Sydney in Sydney which looks like being the status quo for the remaining matches to be played there in 2024.

Aside, injuries aren't an 'excuse' in the context of assessing which side is better at present. Injuries are the reason I consider the Carlton side clearly better than Collingwood. Otherwise, at R12, tangible results alone don't support strong arguments for/against either side being better. Blues are +4pts/4% overall and the Pies 1-0 head to head, for whatever that's worth with 11 H&A matches +/- finals to come before results alone answer the question in 2024.

Sadly, I can't see Collingwood fielding a strong enough side in time to be a realistic chance of making a late run at it while the Blues look primed to be a top 4 contender. I hope to be wrong about my pies and will wear egg on my face proudly if so.
Glad the Swans weren't up and about last year, all that said, because everyone else looks to be competing for runners up!

Death riding really doesn't suit you.

I was happy for the Blues on Thursday.

Emotionally intelligent folk can separate a bunch of players from the supporters who are attached to them.
Do you seriously think my opinion of Geelong fans is based solely on you? It's obviously better for Carlton if Geelong lost. Really not that deep.

So you think Geelong are a contender? Surely not after the past 5 weeks.

Or are you simply thinking in terms of blocking top 4 spots? Surely Carlton win more games than Geelong from here without needing a slip up against a bottom 4 side?
Geelong are looking like a contender for a top 8 spot at the very least and likely a top 4 spot. So see them as clear competition for Carlton. Any loss the teams around us have is only going to benefit us. It's not Geelong-specific.

Geelong are only a top 8 side because of their easy draw. They will be a pushover in the finals. Carlton are a top 8 side who will probably finish top 4 also because of their easy draw. I think right now they re better than us on paper by miles, but we keep on beating you...

Fair enough. We'd need a couple of wins against contenders before top 4 is really back in my mind. It's bizarre to be sitting 3rd after being so bad.

With the top 4 so weak outside of Sydney, we might see another year where a team makes the grand final from 5th-8th.
