Rumour Who's going to the GC?

Got an SMS today that said the following:

"Bock, Rischetelli (or however you spell it) and Ablett all signed for GC."

It will be interesting to see how accurate that is.

I think you might be pretty accurate about Bock, I heard the same thing yesterday, but the rumour about Rischetelli is interesting.

Also add one David Mundy to that list :thumbsu:

Hope it ain't true, but the most likely out of anyone in the club.

Solid pickup if true.

I think their club song is passable however the guernseys are pretty poor. The home one looks more like a training jumper and the wave design on the others is wishy-washy.

What annoys me though is that they had to pick red, blue and yellow as their colours. Surely there are more alternative colours out there especially with Brisbane being sort of similar as well as us.

As you have said, brisbane are already similar to our colours.. The afl is complaining about clashes of colours and then lets a new team use Red blue and yellow.. I think it's a joke.. On a side note, imagine the crowd at a game.. You wouldn't be able to tell who supports who really lol..

I also don't know why they'd want colours so similar to the other team in their state, brisbane..

This is the real interesting point though.. What really shows the afl only look after certain teams is the fact that when port adelaide entered the comp, they were not allowed to use black and white because there was already a black and white team.. So they were forced to add teal..

However another red blue and yellow team is allowed even though there is an existing one????

Cant be true. He cant sign during the year.

Yeah they can, the AFL gave them the ability to get signatures in a (6 week IIRC) window in Feb/Mar 2010.

Why do you think there has been all this furore about Ablett? The rumours would suggest that there are about 6 that have signed, of players that are wellish known at least.

GC's colours are not really anything like ours, we were much closer to Fitzroy's colours when we entered than what GC is to us. We are predominantly navy. and our red is more blood red (like Sydney's), GC is predominanty red with almost no light blue in anything but their clash strip. Their red is more orangey than ours as well.

I don't really see a problem with it TBH. Their colours may be similar to ours but they are not the same. Their red is a lot lighter like our away strip was last year whereas our red is darker like Sydney and Essendon. You hardly even seen the yellow or blue colours on their home strip, they pretty much only are present on the logo.

Lighter, darker, i don't think it matters.. When you ask what colours are gold coast, everyone will tell you they're red, yellow/gold and blue..

Their song says "we are the one in the red gold and blue"..

Oh well, i personally think they could have used other combinations..

I heard about Bock signing about 2 months ago.

Rischetelli should go to GC, after Lions failed trade of him last season.

i think GC should ditch the blue, that way, they are just red/yellow...since no team is just red/yellow.
if it's true that Bock has already signed, then i wouldn't be happy that we are playing him ahead of our real future in Davis, but i guess they could be playing him to increase his value (though from his injuries this year, i doubt we'll get much for his true value).

Two things:
A - He hasn't signed. They had a 1-week window to sign players during trade week last year. Nobody signed. He may well be going to the GC, but he hasn't signed anything yet.

B - The club would never select a player simply to boost their trade value. He gets selected on the basis that he is amongst the best 22 players available. End of story.

i think whats being implied here is a verbal contract has been made, and after todays effort, it wouldn't be a minute too soon!

I echo the thoughts of some. I wouldn't really mind if Bock goes to the GC, plus I'm sure we'll get decent compensation, I think?

The club has done it in the past. Remember John Meesen got 1 or two freebie games in his last year with us.

we would get a first round pick as compensation i think, being that he's a best and fairest winner and all australian

Bock's a great player when he's fit and in form, unfortunately this combination isn't seen enough. While I'd personally like Bock to stay, as I’m sure we all would, I wouldn't have many issues with him leaving because IMO we've got a ton of defensive options that aren't too far away.

Rutten, Davis, Stevens at the present.

While over the next 1-3 years the following will make their marks:

Young
Talia
Thompson

Maybe even chuck in Sellar, and who knows, maybe Gunston in there too (although clearly he looks a forward at present).

We've got good cover on defence for the next 5 years, IMO Bock is a bit of a luxury and if we could get a high draft pick or a couple of picks, I wouldn't be opposite to it.

After tonight's return of Bocky, anyone got a pen?

I'll personally drive Bocky to the airport after today's game.

Maybe we could possibly organise a Police escort to get him there faster

He has become a bit more of a passenger for one reason or the other, not having an impact on games at the moment, if the club could get something that could possibly lead to a gain they should probably take it. That being said though i would still much rather a fully fit Bock to Stevens in the future (all depending on whether Bock has signed with the GC of course)

Chuck in McKernan as a maybe and that's pretty much how I feel about Bock. Love to keep him because he's awesome when fit and firing, but I'm more than happy to give him up if the price is right so that we can address the other glaring deficiencies.
