He could.... i think the AFL will also implement new rules in the future and we might see players kicking much bigger bags maybe....... but i dont think he will get there....

Everyone in this thread is saying Buddy will last longer, because he isn't a bash and crash type forward. However, he is a player who significantly relies on his athleticism which is the first thing to fade as you start to age.

Anyway, I think he will probably just fall short at around 900.

If I remember correctly Judd didnt want to go to Hawthorn. Besides what club would give up a 20yo forward who just kicked 73 goals in a season. You would want picks 1,2 and 3 for that.

it was offered in 2006 before we won our premiership. judd stayed because he wanted that hand on the cup, soon as he got it mumsy called so she could sing lullabies to him while he placed his head on her chest. so he decided to go home after franklins career defining season.

Zero chance.

Relies far too heavily on athleticism, has a poor set shot technique and is too inaccurate. Plus, Hawthorn seem focused on turning him into an Adam Goodes type midfielder rather than just parking him in the F50 and watching defenders go to water trying to defend him.

If he has a bad soft tissue injury around 29-30 years old his output will significantly drop off as he is completely reliant on athleticism rather than footy nous.

Unfortunately I don’t think so. At 25yo he’s kicked 70+ goals three times.

Getting to 1000 is the equivalent of another 7 x 70 goal seasons. That sorta gives an idea of the scale of it. Not gonna happen.

I do say unfortunately because the huge tally spearheads are (were) a wonderful part of footy, and the modern game is much the poorer for not having them.

Would be great to see... I remember Lloyd’s last few years and how much I hoped he’d get there.

If he maintains an average of 3.5 goals per game it will still take him around 6-7 years to make depending on how many finals he plays in, and if he can stay relatively injury free. That would also put him pretty much on 300 games.

He's a chance, it really depends on how well his body holds up and how long he can keep playing for. My feeling is he'll end up somewhere in the 900s.

Completely different players. Riewoldt, in his best years (2003 - 2009) was a pure CHF and for most of that time Fraser Gehrig played full forward kicking 65, 109, 78, 71 and 59 goals from 2004 to 2007.

Riewoldt really only went to fulltime full forward in 2010 and even then as we all know he spends a lot of time up the ground. The way he has played he will kick the odd bag but will never average a lot of goals.

It sounds easy to say - average 70 goals a year for the next 7 years - but that is very hard to do. The main issue is injuries. As soon as you get a few your tallies suddenly start to become 50 and 60 a year. Buddy will need a couple more 100 goal a year seasons to make up for seasons where he will invariably not kick so many.

Gary Ablett is probably closest to Buddy. He kicked 1030 in 248 games, 3 times kicked big 100s and 3 times kicked 80 plus.

So far Buddy has kicked 100 once and 80 once. Will either have to up that rate significantly or play a lot longer.

It'll be hard. As others have said, he will have to lift his output and/or become more accurate. The main problem being is that you would think over the next couple of years the Hawks will drop off, which could mean less supply to Franklin. Not to mention as he gets older he will find it harder and harder to compete with some of the good younger defenders. Its possible though, and it'll be good to see.

Since 2008, I think he is averaging around 3.7, 3.8ish goals a game ( someone correct me if I'm wrong ), and he doesn't really play full forward. He is more of a CHF/HFF. If he can keep up that, or perhaps move back to the goal square in his twilight years, he would be even money to kick 1000 by 31-32ish barring no serious injury.
