Hilfy hasn't got a good enough record to be a lock yet and neither has Pattinson.

Clarke has to bat at 3. He needs to bat at 3 or 4 in Tests too and stop hiding himself
Did someone just mention white? Seriously? And Steve smith for depth? You've got to be kidding. White was finished years ago and smith is in the same mould. A young spinner who can catch, who then realised he was never going to make it as a spinner and turned to improve his batting, only to discover that his batting is ok at best at state level. Why would you bat these duds at 7 when they don't even bowl?
The only depth that these blokes bring to the team is the depth of shit that Australian cricket is in at the moment.

Go ahead and find me another kid who hit 10 centuries in his first year of state cricket. Oh you can't? Well if Smith is so bad surely that can't be hard. #peanut
Agree with your sentiments, but Smith only has 5 career FC centuries?![]()
Your story sounded betterYes you are right, apparently it was four centuries from eight matches. Somewhere along the lines I've just added more onto it lol.

Haha peanut.
Smith has played 32 ODIs for 372 runs @22. Not 1 game has he had an influence on the result. Yep top 6 material right there.
#%£walnut.
At state level his batting is more than okay, which was your original point and one that I refuted. His ODI stats aren't great, but like Wade lately he isn't getting much of an opportunity in game to show what he can do.
Smith has just turned 23, so how about we let him develop, and not compare him to a 28 year old Cameron White.
32 ODI's - how many chances does a man get?
I would also say for most of those games he hasnt done anything with bat, ball or in the field. I was keeping count in the last ODI series in Australia and it got to three in a row without a single contribution to anything. Just taking up space.
I don't disagree with him being dropped. My point was his inclusion at the time was warranted and his stats backed that up. Anyone who says he's a dud is simply stupid.

I think a few of his state centuries came in between stints of international cricket, like last year. Picking him in the first place for Australia wasnt a great move. He hadn't proven anything up to that point. But that was the ethos of the selectors at the time - going against the grain of common sense.![]()
Just read an interesting article on Cricinfo suggesting Phillip Hughes as a candidate
http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia/content/current/story/572651.html
His stats are strong and he's currently in good form. It could be a way back into the test team for him as well.
Steven Smith's initials are SPD Smith.

Could be, but won't be. Unless we're looking at another Michael Bevan, whereby Hughes can avoid short pitched bowling and 3 slips/2 gullies in ODI cricket.
He only made one century last season from memory.
Tough one.. i think Australia should use the ODi level to get some of the better domestic players used to international level so they are not overwhelmed when they come in to the Test arena. I think the players will improve with every match and if shown confidence by the selectors will really come along.
1. D. Warner - great player and well, enough said obviously in the side
2. S. Watson - played some great knocks for Australia but always gets us off to a good start. I would think much nore of a bat than a bowler. No need to have him bowling 10 overs in an ODi side.
3. M. Wade (wk) - will really imrpove with each match/series he has and has the dual ability to stabilize and play slowly or hit some massive shots 10 rows back.
4. M. Clarke (c) - Pretty self explanitory
5. S. Marsh - the first of my controversial selections. Is a great bastman that, with confidence and form will do many good things in both formats.
6. C. Ferguson - a very good player both sides of the wicket and a great finisher.
7. M. Marsh / S. Smith - both are very capable players who can develop into great players in the future. They are both here or their different bowling types. It gives the option so if you wanted to play 4 frontline pace bowlers you could play smith. 2 spinners - marsh. All depends really on the conditions.
8,9,10. M. Starc / N. Coulter-Nile / P. Cummins / J. Pattinson / P. Siddle / A. McDermott / B. Cutting /
J. Herrick - pretty basic here. a rotation of the best pace bowlers. Each players should get equal opportunity to play and show what they have got. All injury prone so nice to be able to rest them.
11. X. Doherty - a nice compliment to the pace bowlers.
