Lots of complaints about trolls but I'm still not sure what a troll is ...at least in the BF context. There are so many people saying crazy stuff. Should everyone have to sign a "I believe what I type" contract, to enable them to post. I suppose then we would only see stupid stuff that people believed in. Does that makes it somehow more acceptable?

Evidently, there's some method to exclude certain posters from your view. It seems that a few people have excluded my posts ....or so they tell me. This seems to be a far better way to save yourself from reading such terrible evil material.

I would suggest that people should name their threads a little better. Sometimes, the heading says absolutely nothing about the content of the thread. I am not particularly curious, so if someone clearly marks the topic as being about something stupid, then I will gladly stay clear..... well, I might feel tempted to make some comment.

But overall, I wish people would just toughen up a little bit. It's a forum. It's meant to be full of crap.

You are my favourite poster. I am not sure exactly where you're coming from, but the enigmatic uncertainties of your contributions only add to their entertainment value. THATSGOLD and BringBackBrad also add a bit of fun to the board. Like you, I am hesitant to label any regular posters to our board as trolls.

Well thank you for the compliment. I remember working in a postgrad lab in the early 1990s, when the internet was young, and this male phd student was in some MUD or MOO masquerading as a frustrated female dominatrix, trying to attract a male user to say something stupid. Now I call that trolling!

We need our own dance troupe, get on it!

In all seriousness, I think our board is tracking well. Wouldn't mind a new thread every week for the ins and outs though as digging through the preview thread gets tiresome.

In the old days, TradeDraft was usually the first to announce the team in its own thread. I find it a bit strange that the teams are no longer announced in a separate thread. Maybe the commercialism of footy has taken a toll on the spontaneous excitement that expectation and suspense create, hence the demise of the TradeDraft team thread, or whoever beat him, from the 5pm timeslot when channel 7 became the new and only mouth of AFL clubs on Thursday nights. It marks the death of yet another little piece of folk-law from this forum. Certain things are associated with particular posters, and TD was known for his team lists and Noosa trips, among his other contributions.

I miss the Arachnid's humour and wish he'd get a modem up and running at his country ranch.

One of the main reasons that I turn up here is that someone finds an article in a newspaper etc and posts it in the forum. If it was buried in some megathread then I wouldnt notice it. I think the other added advantage of not having megathreads is that its easier to hide when you're proven wrong. There are so many posters who get embarassed with their past and have to change their names. It's easier to hide if there's tons of threads...

the only thing that annoys me a tiny little bit is certain people deciding to make a new thread for whatever random thought they have and it often isn't worthy of a thread or just pointless, while others who are doing the right thread have their excellent posts sometimes overlooked.

Perhaps random threads need to be granted to more posters, their plots, like parkour atletes on an outing, leaping randomly from thought to thought. Mods could then largely confine their policing to cleaning up the threads devoted to specific topics. Awards could be given to posters most adept at remaining on topic e.g. 'Congratulations JOELY on your disciplined adherence to topic in the 'Lumumba to Carlton' thread!'

I would like everyone who disagrees with me to be carded...

I'd like to meet some of my fellow posters...

I like the friction of opposing views on the board, and occasionally I've been driven to engage. But this year, more so than previous years, I feel the main page of the board is a little cluttered and I'm more and more unmotivated to delve into threads that seem to be 'more of the same'. I wonder if we could possibly have a 'limit' as to how many threads a poster can start in any given week? There are posters who religiously bring up new threads that are just old threads with new titles. There are posters who religiously bring up new rant threads that are much like the old rant threads. I don't know, I'm just spit-balling but as an alternative to Mega Threads, maybe 'limits' could be a way to go.

I'm not that enthused with Mega Threads, because if you're not in them from page 1, and they stretch out to 20 pages, then I'm less inclined to go back and read hundreds of posts to get up to speed before wanting to post myself. Mega Threads actually drive posters away, I feel.

...and we need more cow bells.

I'd like

- Modcam : Randomly selecting a mod to photoshop their face onto a kissing celebrity couple
- The Bigfooty Massive : Dance group that interpretive dances our team performance each week
- More polls. No, wait I mean more wins.

That'll do. I'll upgrade to premium if my demands are met.

That's an interesting concept.....actually reading the previous posts.....It never occurred to me that people would do that. I might try it in the future.

Strange, frustrated female dominatrix is exactly how I imagined you... :p

At one time there were a number of Collingwood Fan Forums around

It is no coincidence that the constant negative commentary killed them off.
People just refused to go to those sites and read the constant carping and negativity that went on
People who went to those sites and posted in a positive sense were driven off and some were even threatened.

Now that those other sites are dead (or nearly dead) where are those negative posters now?
Some have migrated here and I fear they will do here what they did on those other sites.

You know who I mean...they never ever say Collingwood is doing something well, every post of theirs is anti-Collingwood.
They attack the Club and those who run it mercilessly. They never discuss solutions, they just attack, attack and attack

Constructive criticism should be welcomed and applauded and discussed but what these people do is not that, they are here for one reason only...to rip down, to destroy, to inflict pain. They are the people that Eddy spoke about last week.

If Big Footy genuinely wanted to improve things, stop these arseholes before they destroy this place too

Reading this, one imagines this particular protagonist of indignant prose holding unfiltered cigarette betwixt middle finger and thumb whilst demanding, "Papers pleez!"

I don't mind negative statements, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Some posters can be incessantly negative which can get tiresome but so can posters who are incessantly optimistic and think the club can do no wrong.
Personally I think the mods do a good job and I don't want to see our board become like the scums board. I like that our boards are tolerant. Don't want the Gastapo type approach that the scum use.

It's hardly Gestapo.. I'm sure we don't follow this great club to see someone who specifically comes in here every day to be as negative as possible and whose sole purpose is to snipe and put down the club.. it's ludicrous that we have to suffer it and of course the Carlton mods would never put up with it.. it's an indictment on us that we do

Which is your opinion and I respect it but I don't agree.
Yes some posters can be tiresome with their negativity. But maybe that is actually how they think. Maybe they aren't doing it to annoy us but because that is their outlook. I have met and known many people who constantly look at everything glass half empty.
If the poster is not being abusive or offensive what right do we have to tell them not to give their opinion. How can you decide if the person is really a troll or just one of those people who look at things glass half empty.
Besides some of the responses to the poster you are alluding to are very enjoyable to read.

Think back to when you were a kid and you put that black and white jumper on (that felt like no other jumper on Earth) to go to a game and you got stuck near that a-hole putting us down all day..

Then ask yourself if you really want to put up with him every single day
