I'm resigned to losing Basti, only because it's unreasonable to keep him given the Brisbane offer in front of him. I'd prefer to keep him but that wouldn't be the best for him. I'm sure he will be a solid player for them, and perhaps even a star.

We won't get 17 for him, so they'll pay unders. Luck of the draw. I would be stunned if we got Aish. He's off to Collingwood, no doubt.

Would be pleasantly surprised if we brought in another player in this trade period, and totally relaxed if we don't.

Is bastinac in the best 22 anymore, best 25 then, if not then he is a player under contract and if this trade period has shown anything it is that players under are obtained at a premium.

Short version, Bastinac's value may be greatest right now.

Remember also that if he goes to the 17th best side, we arent likely to be burnt by him in the near future while he is there, it's a good deal for us.

Honestly, in Aish's eyes what can be wrong with North?
Prelim's twice in two years, inner city location, good facilities, good bunch of blokes, great potential for finals and better.
Does he think Collingwood provides a better chance of him playing each week maybe? Bigger crowds perhaps?
Someone is not selling the big picture properly. The guy is 19 and we have a few players retiring in the next year or so.

You can easily understand it - Buckley selling them the "talented young list" that gets to play the big marquee games, the increased chance for sponsorships, jobs for girlfriends etc etc.

The questions Aish should be asking himself are:

a) Didn't Bucks himself once go to the Pies to find success? Sure, he did well financially but no flag. North though ...

b) Doesn't it say something that the likes of Freeman and Seedsman are leaving for lack of opportunity/other reasons? To lose a top 10 pick without having a played a game is pretty awful man management. If that happened at North I'd be utterly ropeable. Sure, blokes get injuries but you deal with that. Look at Taylor Garner, first couple of years ruined by injury, played one game, but we stick by him, he sticks by us, and he's played three finals now, won two, done some very nice things on the MCG in front of a 90,000 crowd.

Couldn't care less what's best for Basti. He signed a contract to play for us. If we trade him it should be in the best interests of the club, not the bloke leaving.

He's an agent - that's what they do. Not sure there's any "nice" agents, they're all acting in the best interests of their client. Pickers just happens to be the one that's screwed us recently, but it's not like the others are much better.

I'd want my kid to be represented by him, he's a snake - but at least i'd know the kid would be getting the best deal for himself and his future.

It might sound weird but its actually potentially detremental to the Lions to keep it as it encourages people to bid earlier on their academy players just to force them to spend it.

On, b), you'd think so. But now everyone probably thinks they will be Crisp, or Adams, who jumped into the seniors successfully - not Seedsman, Kennedy or Karnezis who didn't. And clearly, as well as some who BFCAAK, there are players who grew up watching Buckley in his prime and are excited to work with him. Bless them. It's not a rational choice, but I can sort of see the appeal to a certain type of kid. He should feel a bit hurt that, when he's stuck his neck out, he is so far down their list of priorities.

I agree with what your saying he obviously has currency and I think he will honestly kick arse at Bris but we are paying too much for him to play the inside mid injury back up roll and with Anderson coming in he has more competition on the outside.

In conclusion he doesnt fit for us as we stand but hes perfect for Bris.

If we can do a win-win trade I am not opposed to a trade, if we were going to get Aish then fine, but it has to help us either in the long-term or short-term.

There were 4 clubs interested in him, if Brisbane can't get Aish to consider moving then we should explore the other options and if there isn't a good win-win option then we should honour the commitment we have made.

Some of you guys need to get over wanting to keep basti. The bloke does not fit in our midfield. He's an inside midfielder who can play a bit of outside midfield as well. We have cunners, ziebell, swallow and soon to be dumont who are all ahead of him in that position and wells, dal santo, harvey and gibson who are all ahead of him on the outside. He would not get game time over the next few years if he stayed. If i was told a club were going to offer an early 20's pick for basti mid season i would have laughed and took it no questions asked.

I think we have a deal with Bris no matter which way Aish goes which is why they have saved 17 for us. My non Aish scenario is as follows

Out: Basti, 34, 38, + 40

In: 17, 47 + 2016 2nd rounder ontraded by Bris from Coll

In this scenario we are left with picks 17, 47, 53 + 73 in the ND but it really sets us up for next year to have a crack at someone as we save cap from Basti trade + have an extra 2nd rounder next year for more currency.

Yep. They do like getting the kids to nominate them then leaving them hanging while they work out who they really want.

It is an interesting strategy Figjam is pursuing. Trying an accelerated rebuild by via the draft and trading.

But again, when a pick 10 walks out, it doesn't do you huge favours. I don't see Collingwood being massively strengthened onfield next year by this.

They are building a very nice midfield but lots of the blokes are still very young. De Goey/Adams/Treloar should be a formidable unit soon enough.

Keays is projected to go between 15-20 so i predict they would like to role the dice and hope that he doesnt go before 17 so they get another top pick in before they have to make a bid on Keays. This way they could possibly get 4 top 20's in the draft and I cant see them risking this for picks 34,38 and 40
