Didn't Collingwood get Treloar & Adams?
North Ahern?
Essendon Stewart?
St.Kilda Bruce & Steele?

Carlton may have seemed to have raided hardest but for good reason and only to get the players we really wanted, whilst helping out GWS on the back end.

oh I'm sure it was all done in a benevolent mindset. Wouldn't have a full list of the x GWS that have gone to Carlton would you?

Sooner or later all clubs will have a player from them, especially when they have been on the end of an overflow of talent. It may be our turn soon.

Which Carlton supporter said that and I'll tell you how good their mail is?

As a matter of interest how do you think you'd attain Hopper & Smith and are they the right players for you?

To be fair Raymann is saying on the GWS board that hopper is keen on geelong and he is more well connected than most GWS posters.

To answer your question any trade for both would have to involve our 2018 1st and your 2017 2nd (that you traded us) as i doubt they will have cap room to take players from us in a trade.

I hope we dont mainly because our midfield is stacked and i dont see the value in trading for hopper if we are going to play him on a HF flank so it seems the wrong structure fit to me. I would rather we got a quality small forward (maybe smith) and a quality KPF instead.

I wouldn't put it past them to use a 3rd club.. if they could get hold of a tradable pick. I have stated my case for what I think we should do , but thats not what I expect us to do. I also have stated the type of player I feel we need to prioritise but again , it wouldn't surprise me that IF a player lets it be know they want to come here , that we attune ourselves to making it happen. It would appear, if one wants to get on to the trade treadmill then sometimes, just like when at the gym ..you have to jump on when that treadmill is available. Id say Henderson was one season too early , but once he said "I want to come home , I want to play at Geelong" then we basically channelled our efforts towards making it happen.

If Hooper is in this type of situation , we may find that the chance to acquire a mid of his pedigree and potential to hard to ignore. The facts is we will hardly ever have the chance to draft a mid as early as what Hooper was drafted only two years ago. He has managed to get 10 games in his first year in a side with a list that is stacked to the max. Joel is 29 and one must keep one eye on the future.

Couldn't see us getting Hopper and Smith, no chance. It could be one or the other. Hopper looks like a Caddy V2.0, not sure he is what we need.

We might get GAJ though.

I'd give up our 2018 1st rounder for Hopper. The kid is a jet and as tough as nails. The perfect replacement for Selwood down the track.

We might need a few top draft picks in 2018 for the father son prospects, but we could always go into deficit, but I'm not sure how that works.

Unfortunately me neither.

Would be happy to have Hopper on board.

But if we use another rd1 pick on Hooper I'm fair dinkum gonna spew..

Hooper and 1st rounder brings back bad memories! Hopper and 1st round not so much.

There are ways around it as you just need points to match a bid not one high pick. For e.g. we could trade our 2018 1st out and trade in a couple of third rounders and use 2/3 3rd rounders to match the bid points (gws have done this previously) or we could go into deficit for 2019 (the deficit comes off whichever round the bid is from-say if brownless gets bid in the first round and we make up the points to match and then scott is bid on in the second round and we dont have the points our 2019 2nd rounder gets pushed back to make up the points). So there are options.

Thats a long way down the track.. Our FS's have not shown anything beyond their provenance. Once they play champs next year.. then we can start sweating on picks. As it stands I think Brownless and Scott seem to project as draftable.. so was Bews.
On debt... the rules read..

  • If a Nominating Club does not have enough points to secure a F/S or Academy selection in a given Draft , the points required will carry over to the Club’s first selection the following year.

In this case, points will be deducted prior to the trade period to ensure the Nominating Club pays it points debt, rather than trades picks away.

Clubs will not be eligible to participate in the bidding system if they still owe points going into the next draft.

Would luv it.. but they would, and rightly so, ask 2 x Rd1, a Rd 2 and a player.

It would be so cost prohibitive but potentially so worth it.

GO Catters

If he was restricted FA, could come to us for nothing unless GC matched. If the player wants to leave the club rarely matches. But fair chance we'd see a Dangerfield type scenario.

Pipe dream anyway I imagine.

The problem is lynch is their captain and key forwards have huge trade value. We would need to offer at least 1.5mil a year to make them not decide to match and even if we have the cap room i can't see us culturally doing it when selwood and danger are only on 800-900k.

Apparently we were interested in one of the GCFC Academy players in Brad Scheer at the last draft.

He has made his debut, his kicking looks a bit awkward/unorthodox, hasn't really set the house on fire, have to wait and see on that one, still very young.

Not sure if I remember correctly but we tried to draft him, called his name and had it matched by gold coast and missed out?

What do people think about going after Jack Gunston, has been poor this year for the Hawks but we all know what quality he has, change of environment might invigorate him.

He'd be the perfect get for us. We need a lead up forward of his quality. Great kick for goal too. Reckon the only reason his form has gone south is because he is largely a victim of a poorly performed Hawks midfield. The only issue is I can't see the Hawks wanting to trade him to us unless the deal is massive overs. I'd be making some inquiries though..

Saw this just posted on the Scandals and Rumours Board.

Heard from a few good sources now that the Lions have tabled up an offer to get him to the Den. Cockatoo waiting on his place in the Cats team and form before either taking the big offer at the Lions or stay loyal with Cats. A few club's are watching and waiting such as the Sun's. He's more chance than not to leave at end of year.
