Even though they are physically quite different Hawkins reminds me a bit of Jack Gunston. Both great goal kickers (Gunston has an excellent finals record) but their performances ebb and flow with their team rather than being the driving force.
Carey is the ultimate benchmark for a key forward because even though we could match North across the ground and had the best 1 on 1 match up for him he was still never out of the game.
I get what you are saying but that is a bit unfair to Hawkins (and Gunston really.) there have been plenty of games where Hawkins has taken the game by the scruff of the neck and went nuts. Yes he isn’t a huge driving influence like Carey, but very few players are.
