4th test Australia v India at the Gabba 1030 AEDT

It’s easy to say to bring the field up but there was nothing happening. No balls lobbing up, no edges.. heck not even many that went past the bat. If the ball was darting around and jumping off a length then it’s a fair point but it was a dead pitch
True, the pitch wasn't helping much, but Australia was in the position where it needed to make things happen and having fieldsmen up around the batsmen can create implied pressure that makes the batsman bat differently and make mistakes.

They got rolled for 36, lost half the side and didn't drop another game while winning two its one of the all time great fightbacks, admitting that won't make your head explode.

It's also worth admitting that if our bowling didn't fire on all cylinders in that innings we would have lost that game too.

It's not as if we thrashed them game 1 and they came back, they've been on top of us for a pretty large majority of the sessions in the series.

Starc was mostly off since Adelaide agreed.

What frustrates me with him is he doesnt take enough time to find line and length. To do that you sometimes have to bowl slower for not just a couple of balls but for 2 or 3 overs. He doesn't give himself a chance to settle. If his line and length is off first over he just keeps trying to bowl fast over anything else.

He should be able to address this himself but after a few poor tests where's the guidance from captain and coaches?
He doesn’t seem to execute a yorker as consistently or as well as he does in limited overs cricket either, they’re deadly in those formats. Only saw him genuinely land one today and it very nearly got an LBW, so the ability is there, it just isn’t consistent and hasn’t been at Test level for a while. Surely Paine not using Starc at all in the last session says a bit about how the captain rates him?

Again, Ponting had the sessions as dead even coming into this Test, India would’ve gone ahead during Brisbane though. That’s about right. The only Test India truly dominated was Melbourne.

I think Gill, Pant and Siraj might end up being exceptional.

If everyone's fit for the next Test they play 3 seamers with it'll be interesting to see what they do.

Bumrah and Shami with either Ishant or Siraj you would guess. Ishant has been consistent but gee it would be harsh on Siraj after this.

Too busy barracking Fleming and Brayshaw and laughing at Pujara for batting slowly but actually wearing our bowlers out
Even Ponting weren't critical at all on Starc or Lyon, only Hayden talked about Starc and that was the first I heard anyone finally rubbishing his form and that was the 4th innings of the last Test.

yep our batting really cost us the first two test matches but we got bailed out by a freakish bowling display, india could have easily wrapped up the trophy after just two tests with how poorly we batted, the next two tests the pitches got easier but its the same old story marnus and smith do the heavy lifting a few others chip in.
