Only issue with this is how easily Powell and Phillips were pushed around by mature Dogs mids during that practise game. Jy's becoming a solid, hard player now, maybe an extra 10% so 69% and 28% for powell would work and not leave us to get smashed around the contest.

The issue I'm thinking about is how we can maximise our strengths around the centre while also defending against Taberner, Jackson, Fyfe and one of Amiss/Treacy.

Fyfe does not appear like much of a threat anymore as a forward. At least if the last game and preseason is any indication. We can just tell JZ punch it everytime it heads in his direction and give Nat all the grief he can muster.

But Bonar and Logue leaves us one tall short for the other three.

Not at all, and I do like your general observations about Powelly.

The issue I'm thinking about is how we can maximise our strengths around the centre while also defending against Taberner, Jackson, Fyfe and one of Amiss/Treacy.

All this talk (both on here and in the media) of the Fyfe forward experiment failing just makes me more certain he'll kick 3+ against us this week. He's awesome above his head. Will cause us a ton of strife if Longmuir leaves him in, which he will going by what Freo fans are saying.

But yeah, all that is fair enough. They'll go in tall and Corr is a must. I'd actually bring in Dawson too, but that'd likely mean dropping one of JZ and Bonar, and all indications are that that won't be the case. Can tell this season that we're gonna struggle against land of the giants teams

Knowing Norths luck they will rotate him through the mid field and he will hurt us badly...

It's a good problem to have that there isn't an obvious drop due to form.

I suspect CT is safe this week because he demostrated some good forward pressure and physicality, and we know that Clarko rates that highly. (Same reason Kayne Turner won't be dropped).

If someone's getting dropped, my guess is it'll be one of Bergman, Goater, or Scott. All three of those guys played a decent game against the Eagles, so they'd be a bit stiff. But it just comes down to matchups.

CT and Stepho are the obvious outs.

CT couldn't hit a target in the first half when we were flying.

His first quarter I think he missed each of his first 3-4 kicks by about 5m.

If we know anything about Clarkson, he also values quality ball use above most things also.

As we head into enemy territory to face one of the stingiest defences in the AFL, I think we'll get a great indication of how high-powered this gameplan from Clarkson is going to be.

Just because of who we're facing and where the game is, it'll probably be one of our lowest scoring games for the year. Whatever we end up scoring this weekend can almost be considered our base output so to speak.

David Noble averaged 36 points in his two games at Optus against the Dockers. I'd be hoping for at least 60 and anything above that would show tremendous improvement and belief that we can kick a winning score against anyone.

On the other side of the ball, I think Fremantle showed against the Saints that even with a new look forward line with Jackson and Fyfe added to the mix, they still aren't going to be a high scoring side. If Fyfe doesn't get back to his best, then there's nobody up forward for the Dockers who scares you. West Coast at least had Ryan, and perhaps even Darling or Allen are more dangerous right now than Taberner, Treacy, and Jackson. It's not going to be a shootout, so if we're able to score on them then we'll give ourselves a great chance.

My prediction is Fremantle 85 - North Melbourne 60.

We have a few things stacked against us, despite Fremantle playing Sunday arvo in Melbourne, we played in 37 degrees.

Saturday's forecast in Perth is for 29 and sunny and there's no roof to protect us and the ground is much bigger, we aren't the fittest side in the league yet and the ground size wont suit that game plan as much as it did on Saturday.


Hoping for a good showing, but expecting us to run out of legs in the second half, as we appeared to on the weekend.

I'd like to see Bonar get a decent block of games to see if he's up to it or not so we can make a call on his future. Otherwise how are we gonna find out if he can be the next Gibson.

Agree. Clarko may well keep Bonar in. Maybe, Corr doesn’t come in. Clarko knows best, obviously. My view is that, if Corr comes in, it shouldn’t be at the expense of Miller.

My biggest concern is their mids. Those smaller zippy mid groups, that handball around and out of congestion are generally what kills us. It’s why Essendon/Dogs midfield always have a day out against us. They make us look slow & generally we get sucked in and they burn us when the ball is released.

Need to win clearances and contested ball.

Jy or Shiels to run with Brayshaw.

Clarkson will have a plan to mitigate Pearce/Cox (we won’t be able to completely) intercepting everything.

Time will tell. However, we looked far zippier ourselves in the middle on Saturday. I’m hoping we’re a completely different proposition than in the past. Maybe, WC made us look better than we really are? We’ll certainly find out at the weekend.
