Bedford was a really good match up. I'm far less worried about what he'll cop physically than most are, as the reality is you can't play a big brute on him to exploit his size as they can't track him through traffic - he cuts them to ribbons - a bloke with the agility of a small forward is the ideal match up for Nick and in a couple of years there won't be many who can run with him and are also strong enough to pin him in tackles - there are already very few who can run with him when he is fully fit.
After watching yesterday, the key to running away from Nick is to have the ball in your hand.

Yes, but he didn't have an injury interrupted preseason like he did this year with the plantar fasciitis (as far as I'm aware). I just don't think you can get away with that when you play the way he plays + the position he plays at the highest level. I guess there's always the option to throw him forward or back, but that will hurt Collingwood a fair bit to not have him playing in the midfield.

Let's see how he goes against Port this week.
Hard to know if the cramping was just one of those things or genuinely showing that his conditioning isn't as good and that he won't be able to run like he could last year. Definite chance that he might have to play some deep forward - at least early in the year. It'll hurt us whilst Degoey is still out, but them splitting time forward and onball won't be such a bad thing - particularly if we continue with the safe entries to try to lock it in and then try to manufacture ground level goals - which is how we ended last year and began this year.

The guy hates contact and if pressured won’t bend over and get the hard ball. It’s just so embarrassing and even worse, the media love of rating him ‘the best player in the comp’ highlights how they ignore facts.
How any of them can say with a straight face that he's better than Cripps or Bontempelli is beyond me. Both are 10x the leaders on field and infinitely more inspirational types. Never see either of them shirk a contest.

It's stupid for Daicos cheerleaders and bashers alike to compare him with players almost 30 years old. We can blame the media for egging both parties on.

Time for another Daics highlights package, here he is destroying the eventual premiers in their most recent loss, look at him go [emoji106] [emoji16]

Extraordinary player. Imagine watching that kid and potting him continuously. Really bizarre.

That's the thing. Two greats of the game at their peak and the best Walshy can come up with to separate them above Nick is intangibles like inspiration and leadership.

I'm an unabashed Lachie Neale fan and look at Nick and think if he stays healthy he'll become significantly better than Neale has been at every single facet of the game. Will that make him the GOAT? Don't know, but it'll get him in the conversation.

The best I can come up with? Their records speak for themselves. 2x Brownlow Medallist and a 3x MVP.

There is simply no comparison to be had.

I just laugh at the hilarious attempts from Pies fans to blow more smoke up his arse than I previously thought was possible. If your fans were a bit more critical of him perhaps he'd have realized by now that defending should be an expectation of all team members, not just the ones who are less naturally talented than golden boy Nicky.

OK. I'll start calling him a squib so that when McRae reads this he'll make him play differently.

Walshy's grandkid: Did you ever see Nick Daicos play?
Walshy: Yeah I watched Nick Daicos - hang off his every game - in order to call him a squib.
Walshy's grandkid: But everyone else says he's the best they've seen.
Walshy: He was a squib
Walshy's grandkid (aside to the doctor): It's time to increase granddad's dementia medication.

Is anyone bar a select group of Pies nuffies and media numpties saying he's the best they've ever seen?

Personally I'd never consider Nicky over WCE Judd over their first few years.

I'm assuming that your grandkid isn't born yet - obviously could have it wrong.

Fair call on Juddy. Was tracking to be the best ever. Unfortunately OP hampered him and slowed him down a bit and he was just one of the all time greats rather than the best ever.

If I'm coaching Collingwood, I don't hate the idea of splitting N.Daicos' time between the forward line and the midfield. You see how damaging Horne-Francis can be playing that role and I think Daicos is perfectly capable of doing the same thing. Having said that, I'd be doing it with the plan to move him back into a full time midfield position later in the season.

Me too. I'd love to see Jordy and Nick changing forward in the first half of the season and then to unleash them together in the midfield late in the year - and if we're good enough to play in September.

Prime Judd was a beast there is no comparison. And yes most likely just Pies fans and idiots like King. The more rational will admit he's a very talented player and leave it at that.

No one is saying is the best they've ever seen - yet. You need a big body of work for that accolade.

Not even the best peak I've seen of a Pies player yet - that'd be Buckley, but I think he's already gone past the peaks of Swan and Pendles, which were pretty bloody high.

He already averages more Brownlow votes than anyone in history and is right on track to be the GOAT [emoji106]
