It's stupid for Daicos cheerleaders and bashers alike to compare him with players almost 30 years old. We can blame the media for egging both parties on.
Why?

Noone has said he's 'tougher', or a 'better leader', but when he's performing as 'the best player in the competition', it's more than reasonable for people to state as much.

One thing Nick could do when presented with a hard tag is do what Dusty used to do. Roam forward and take his direct opponent to the goal square.

The issue with that is Dusty was the best 1v1 player in the comp whereas Nick has never taken a contested mark.
How many times did Martin get tagged in the first, let's say 6, years of his career?

Quite a bit according to a lot of the reminiscing from former players and coaches when he was retiring.

Additionally just after a quick google search, he was notably tagged in 2010 by Sydney/Kirk, Freo/Crowley in 2011. They're just ones that were highlighted but he was targeted heavily early on because oppo coaches realized he was a game changer. As he got older, he dragged his tagger to the goal square and eviscerated them. You should remember when Pies tried Levi Greenwood on him in 2018 and got carved up for multiple goals.

Haha that 2nd quarter is unreal. Wish he kicked that 3rd goal.

God you’re screwed without him, you were well down before he got going in the 2nd.

Not healthy for your team balance. You should trade him.

What absolute rubbish.

Bizarre, should we also keep stats on possessions on the opposite foot/hand?

Personally, I don't rate the brownlow as an indicator of the best player in a season and certainly not career output, let alone a GOAT debate
You might want to make your mind up. You just used it as an indicator by saying you can think of 10 players that have won it before 22.

The Brownlow recently has very similar results to all other awards with the same half a dozen blokes up the top of all of them in a slightly different order.

So I agree actually winning it is of no more significance than any other award, but if you're up the top, you've been one of the standout players of the year.

Young kid has a standout year. Young kid gets a heap more defensive attention and output regresses is the norm for the elite youngsters, but not for this elite youngster. It's been a remarkable start to a career.

Spot on, with all points.

Ablett Jnr won 10 × major awards.

I wouldn't rate him any higher or lower if he had have won 15, or 5 - because he performed how he performed.

My post was to highlight how pointless it is to keep a running commentary on brownlow votes/winners, given my top 4 in the GOAT conversation never won a brownlow

You mean like a bias coaches award? Again, not an indicator I use

Sure, the best player could be in the top 5 or 10, players of a season, but award winners aren't always considered best players of any particular year

Had a great start to his career, but "a matter of when not if" is truly laughable

Like all kids, I hope he achieves his absolute best career wise

Coaches award, media award, brownlow - all the awards tend to have the same blokes up the top in a shuffled order.

Who are your top 4? Gaz Sr, Lethal, Carey, ?

He is a beast when up and about

If we traded Daics I would have to change clubs as we would no longer be Collingwood

Looks terrible at the moment though, underdone, I've ditched him from my fantasy teams

Whole team looked underdone. We ****ed up the build up. No full length intraclub. Then that match sim against GC and Bris where they only played a half each. Then a full practice match against a very second rate team in Richmond ...

It showed in both how we ran out the game and how we approached pressure like a training drill with handballs to stationary blokes expecting them to be clear and able to feed it out to runners. Just weren't at all ready for a bloody good hard running team applying AFL standard pressure.

Who knows whether Nick's cramp was just shock to not having hit that intensity for months or whether it's because plantar fasciitis has stopped him from having the conditioning he needs to play like he did last year.

From who I've seen

GAS, Lethal, Carey, Buddy
Pretty awesome group. Clear preference for the goal scorers which I think works in terms of those eras, but this are is about creating space to set up team goals - hence the mids being the highest rated blokes currently.
