Cant play all of Howes, West and Riley Mason in the same forward line again, they weren't creating any separation for eachother

You could play those 3 together, but we had one of the rucks there as well.

His ground ball work has been impressive- rarely fumbles

This is the best group of VFL players we've had in a long time, I reckon. Liked Eyre and Byrne as well. Algeri and Bennets (among others) go OK too.

Brady Gray is not a bad player

Brady Gray reminds me of Phil Manassa (in looks), or maybe Graham L Anderson - both played for the Pies in the 70s

That was a really good win:

• Cox's too good for this level.
• Mitchell improving.
• Encouraging signs from midfield core, Demattia, Parker, and Haynes.
• Everyone is in Love with Westy and like Long in the AfL, can do no wrong!
• The middy's looked good with out excelling.
• Defence solid again lead by Dean.
• All VFL players looked comfortable at the level, 77 real energy today and Eyres younger brother might be the better footballer.
• Smit and Steene as solid as usual!

I think he was probably BOG. Problem for Tom is he's a one position player and we're stacked in his position.

He's looking good in the air, but he gets beaten in ruck contests at VFL level and isn't going to be picked as a forward. Needs some serious gym time before he's AFL.

Upside is you want your pinch hitter to be more forward/ruck than ruck/forward. Thinking that looks more like Steene’s MO.

I think the whole AFL world has settled on the ideal being a bloke who can play 60% of the game up forward and 20% chopping out in the ruck. You can try to make something work with two rucks or someone comng from defence like we did with Frampton - or if you've got Cripps or Blicavs you have other options. But how do you make it work if the player isn't AFL standard in either role? Steene is a fair way away from being either an AFL ruck or an AFL forward. I don't see how you'd make that work.
