Rowell's first couple of games before getting injured were on another level. Just explosive power at the contest and the man. Battering ram style clearances that blew apart experienced midfielders. Hopefully starting to see some of the best of Rowell to come as he is also just an amazing prospect.

Yeah Rowell was an absolute freak when he started. Tore us a new one that day. Not sure it's a great direct comparison as they're not the same but wow I'm happy with Reid. I think he could have the higher ceiling with the damage and finish. But either at their best will drag teams into the W column game after game

Imagine if he got drafted to Norf after our respective results today.

Belted in Geelong in front of 5 fans or playing in front of almost 50000 Eagles fans screaming your name every time you get near the footy.

“They’re not going to pick him, Mitch. He doesn’t want to go there”

Eagles have already booked him into a specialist because they can't wipe the smile off his face after that game with fans cheering his every possession. Kudos to the members and fans for turning up

Reid has shown way more talent than rowell. Not even close.

In terms of first year explosive mids in recent time it goes

1. Rowell
Daylights
2. JHF

Rowell averaged 27-30 possession for his first 5 games. Next level. Robbo was talking about him getting a Brownlow and polling well.

My expectation for reid was getting around JHF level for first year not surpassing him. But he's tracking well to surpassing him amazingly.

Imagine if we’d ended up with McKercher. Everyone saying beating the bulldogs last year was more important than Harley * me take a long hard look at yourselves.
I was at the Dogs game and i left filthy. I never want to actively barrack against my side but one win after a long, shitty year meant very little to me in comparison to having control of our own fate.

I have never liked Norf.

Now i LOVE them.

That's what I thought I remembered.

So many of the comparisons have been around Dusty Martin but his true comparison is actually Chris Judd if you ask me. He has more explosiveness then Martin and has that ability to make space others cant with it. So often today he got the ball and didnt even need the fend off or tackle break. Unlike Dustin Martin also I think Reids got less goal scoring nous, forward nous. Reid is a bonafide midfielder who will be playinh 90% of his game time in the midfield whereas Dusty was always better with a larger time up forward then a mere 10% for example

Its scary to think how close we went from getting Harley Reid at pick 1, to picking Daniel Curtin at pick 3. Ill forever be thankful to North Melbourne. Forever

So just to put Harleys game into context.

1 goal.
27 Disposals (equal 2nd for the game)
12 Contested (equal 3rd)
7 clearances (equal 3rd)
531 metres gained (2nd)

Not bad for an 18 year old, let alone an 18 year old with all the media attention he's gotten the past week.

The kid loves the big stage, no doubt about it.

I still think he will hit his jets when Flynn is back in. A big bodied ruck to win some more clear hitouts will be huge for a guy like him.

Like Judd, Reid wont need a hitout to advantage, just a hitout in his general area. He can use other skills to turn it into hitout to advantage. Williams had a okay 2 weeks but his ruck tapout work still isnt at the level a guy like Reid needs

I expect by the end of the year with Flynn around he is getting that 5 games of 25+ disposals and is in the same realms Matt Rowell was in in his first year

Alright this is early I'm only typing this because he's clearly going to be a top player, I'll use Dusty has a example as he was the best player in the comp previously.

Harley I believe has a better fend off than Dusty, he moves better than Dusty and seems to ride contact/tackles and breaking them better than Dusty, more like Judd did, He also has a better over head mark.

Harley his this ability in his movement where he faces in a direction and runs the opposite way, it really fools the opposition thinking he's going run towards them but he doesn't, it's hard to explain he runs basically sideways A LOT.

This is where the difference is at the moment, Dusty strongest parts of his game was his decision making and disposal, he in his prime years pretty much 9.9/10 always made the right decision and he would kill teams by foot going into 50 which to me is most valuable thing about Dusty, the Richmond forwards owe him at least 100 goals due to his elite disposal by foot and unselfishness, if Harley can add more to this game.. well sky is the limit.

Yeah, we got a player.

We would have given up Reid for picks 2 and 3. Taken Mckercher and Curtain. I thank Brady for getting us the Gold Coast pick goldmine.

And now I thank him for his hard nosed approach at giving up anything of reasonable value for Reid.

Brady Rawlings, a truly generational West Coast list manager, whether he’s inside the 4 walls or outside them.
