Chad Warner
When the Sydney Swans swept up Chad Warner with pick 39 at the 2019 AFL Draft, they secured a youngster with an insatiable appetite for the contest. Warner attacks the ball and opponents with aggression and is relishing calling midfield bulls Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker his teammates at the Swans. Warner impressed for Western Australia in the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 18.2 touches (50 per cent contested), 3.2 clearances and 6.8 tackles per game. He also tallied an average of 27.1 disposals, 6.4 clearances and 7.4 tackles per match at Colts level for East Fremantle in 2019. He earned his AFL debut against Richmond in Round 6 of the 2020 season, recording eight disposals and two tackles.

It might be easier if we can just do deal for a job lot for the McDonald and Warner clans, parents and all, on the proviso that we get first option on any offspring. I guess we can put them all up in one big house together.

Academy the whole lot of them <3

I wonder if Chad agreed to sign for 3 years is his brother was signed up too. He has all the bargaining power to ask that but good on him if he did. It's a win for both and a win for us as it makes it more likely half of our team will have the name Warner by 2025. We can re-sign them all under a family deal.

I think you've got all got end-of-season-itis! There is no way Chad has the bargaining power to ensure his brother plays for us... crazy stuff! o_O:eek:

In my opinion:

Corey has been signed to a two year deal for ages and they have been waiting for Chad's deal to announce them together. We often re-sign promising youngsters to two year deals to give them time to grow and develop.

Chad was always going to be a 3-4 year deal, with his management pushing for three to enable him to sign again at the top of his game. The club would have preferred 4, but was happy to settle for 3.

More than likely both deals have been done for a while and they've been holding them for the 'right' moment. Wouldn't be surprised if we see a couple more next week, and they might keep one in hand in case we lose next week.

The timing of the deal announcements will be carefully determined over the next few weeks I'd reckon...

The kid stood up on the big stage, when basically no one else did around him

What a tremendous effort yesterday.

Was him and Fox v Geelong most of the day.

Warner has to take them all on by himself with zero support from 20 Swans players making clanger after clanger after clanger.
Pretty spot on description

Taking the absolute piss being in the conversation for best players at the club after less than 50 games in a Grand Final season, let alone having legitimate case to be called our best.

Would have to be close to unprecedented. Closest comparison that comes to mind is Bont in 2016, but he'd already hit the 50 game mark by then. Not to mention he was a first round pick, rather than a mid-second round pick.

Pick 39. Early 3rd.
Great points.
Don't think anyone saw it coming. Sheer determination to improve. Hard work. No idea what his ceiling might be.
