Menzel, Seedsman, Gov all 1-2 weeks away will leave us with a very small injury list! Going to be very hard to push for spots i think we might not have a place for the Seed. Gov has to come back in though

Yeah, Wigg is clearly not rated terribly highly right now, but injuries create opportunities, and the status quo can look quite different quite quickly if players take their chances. What were your predictions for Otten or Kelly two months ago?
Kelly was always going to hold his position until Cheney was ready to return, or Doedee was injury free and judged to be sufficiently developed to take Kelly's place in the team. Neither of those has happened yet.

Otten's longevity has surprised me to a certain extent. Injuries to McGovern, Lever & JJ have helped his cause significantly. He was always the first replacement tall, so his selection has not been a great surprise.

Wigg is a lot further down the list of midfield replacements. Ahead of him are Gallucci, Knight, Menzel, Beech, Cheney and Poholke. You can add Seedsman to that list in a few weeks' time. Some of those might require a bit of shuffling (e.g. Cheney in, Laird to midfield), but they'd all be selected ahead of Wigg.

The Bye is going to rear its ugly head soon.

The next few weeks go:

Geel
St K
BYE (AFL and SANFL)
Hawks (Thurs night)
Carlton
WB

So even if Gov only misses 1 more he then plays one game in SANFL but we then have a bye! Surely he will need more than 1 game? This means if he's not ready till after the bye his first SANFL game will be the Hawks weekend, a 2nd one on the Carlton weekend so realistically he could be back versus the Bulldogs.

Whos spot does he take I'd be putting in Knight for Mackay and possibly Cheney for Kelly but where would we fit Seed

Ok, taking the current team and including Knight for Mackay and Cheney for Kelly, based on current form, I'd suggest the following players would be fighting for a spot in the team:

Douglas
Greenwood
Milera
Knight
Gallucci
Seedsman
Menzel

3 players from the 7 listed above would miss out.

Out of these only Douglas, Greenwood and Milera are in the team and i'm not sure we could replace any of those three tbh! Getting a spot is going to be extremely tough after the bye!

Knight, Seedsman, and Mackay are all fighting for a single spot, short of further injury or form drops. I don't think Knight has in any way established a certainty ahead of the other two.
Right now, Mackay is the incumbent - and there's nothing in the selection history of Knight or Seedsman to suggest that they'll be picked ahead of him at this stage. That said, Mackay was dropped for Gallucci's debut, and it's been a while since he had a good game. His position is definitely vulnerable.

4 actually as in the first sentence I stated that I assumed that Knight had taken Mackay's spot.

Precisely my point. And now, having performed well, it's not automatic that Cheney takes his spot. Will need to push him out. Cheney was the incumbent, he's not now.

Again, yes, injuries have created an opportunity that he has taken. He may still be dropped but it's no longer an easy decision. And no-one was predicting that scenario at the start of the season.

Wigg is not competing with all of them for a spot. And the 'bit of shuffling' almost never occurs. I wouldn't count out seeing him this year, as much as it might look unlikely right now. A fit and healthy list seems his biggest problem, but he might be given a Gallucci game and if he turns it on, the selection dynamics become more unpredictable.

Kelly hasn't done enough to make his position secure. I think we'll see Cheney back after 1 or 2 more games in the SANFL - probably after the bye.

Unlike Kelly, Otten has done enough to give the selectors some serious headaches. Things get very "interesting" when McGovern is ready to return. JJ, Otten, McGovern - there's only room for 2 of them in the team. Walker is probably the worst performed of our tall forwards over the last month, but they're not dropping the Captain.

We always knew that Otten could play. The only question over him is his pace. Nobody has ever doubted his skills, his footy brain, or his ability to play the game in general. Wigg doesn't have those runs on the board.

Wigg couldn't even make the emergency list the week after having 38 disposals, in a BOG performance in the SANFL. The odds on him getting a "Gallucci game" grow longer with every player that returns from the injury list (Menzel, Seedsman, Knight). It's abundantly clear that his card has been marked, as has Gore's.

Not sure what you're going on with, saying that they don't shuffle players around. They do it all the time. How many roles has Otten played this year? Mackay gets shuffled between midfield and HBF; Cameron between midfield and the forward line; Greenwood spent most of the Brisbane in the forward line, before replacing Hampton in the midfield for the Freo game.

Any way you care to cut it, Wigg is at least 6-7 injuries away from making his AFL debut.

The shuffling is minimal. Otten is the only one really being swung to a significantly different role. Mackay is always a midfielder, maybe with a change of emphasis on defence or attack. Charlie is in the process of migrating from defensive small forward to attacking midfielder. Despite repeated suggestions, Laird, Smith, Brown et al have never been shuffled into completely fresh midfield roles in order to squeeze another player in. It just doesn't happen. That's my hard and fast prediction. We'll see how yours pan out.

My main prediction is that Wigg will be delisted at the end of the year, having never made his AFL debut.

Touch wood!!!

Can't believe no one has mentioned about hampton's injury lay off now after surgery!?? Someone also mentioned we only have Gov to come back in to have our best 22. Well for me we have Gov, Hampton, Cheney and Mackay's replacement at least to come in to have our best 22.

I'm hoping Hampton is back in time for finals. I would love it if he was. Asssuming he can then he'll be a nice little weapon all hidden away until just when we need him. He's criticised a bit for not racking up huge numbers but I can guarantee that most of the ones that do rack up, come finals, will get way less, not saying we're outside down hill skiers or anything, but we have several players who feed off inside ball (rightly so, without them we'd be stuffed). Curtly tho, in finals, would just continue on as if nothing had happened - his games all contest anyway. He would rise to the top big time in finals.

The silver lining is that we have possibly another of this sort of player who needs to get games - Greenwood - and Curtly being out will hopefully allow him to get a run of games to get used to the level. Then the ideal would be to have both of them in during finals.
