We can't think Steve Smith will solve our problems. He will of course make us significantly better. Remember Jimmy Anderson will be back for England.

Woke up this morning hoping for the best after a truly awful morning session. Truly gutted. This is the single worst loss I've ever seen and I struggle to think how we come back from it this series or indeed for a few more. That's a generation defining loss.

Hats off to Stokes: He has become the new Beefy Botham and a legend of English cricket. Legendary knock that will survive for many decades to come. Simply amazing.

Why are we so useless with reviews? So many times the ball clearly pitches outside leg stump and we review it. Morons. We lost the unloseable Test. The series is now gone. Unbelievable.

Have to blame Cummings more than Paine.

Unless Paine reviewed it even after Cummings said it wasn't out.

I feel for lyon just hope he can suck it up and be ready for the 4th test, we still have the urn till they win the 4th or 5th test

The salt in here is next level. England have a much better team than Australia who have had luck go their way until now. England will probably win 2-1 now but as if that's a surprise to anyone.

Can't agree with either point. Both teams are fairly similar. Good to excellent bowling attacks and poor batting teams.

If there's anything between them there's not much.

Actually staggered by the luck comment.

Congratulations to England but how did Australia allow that game to slip away with England 9 down and 100 odd runs to go. Insipid.

Stokes though, what a knock.

It's a fairly obvious troll that's factually incorrect in every way.

England on paper have more talent. Look at the spuds in the middle order. Head, Wade, Harris are all laughable. As is Usman. B Grade batting line up at best.

Australia were 2 hours away from losing the second test if not for weather. Once you take the rose coloured goggles off you realise that this Australian team is similar to the Lara led Windies team. One great batsmen and a plethora of rubbish underneath.

Fantastic performance by Stokes in this match, hats off.

But gees we blew it.

As for the umpiring, we should just tell the Poms to appoint English umpires for remaining two tests, they’ll be far more competent. It’s an indictment on ICC that Wilson umpired again after an atrocious first test.

Still no excuses. Lyon should have been bowling earlier, should never have fumbled and we should never have appealed a ball pitching outside leg.

Need to replace Paine with Handscomb even, guys a liability

Michael Vaughan actually made a good point about Joel Wilson. England had 1 review left so why not just give any close decisions OUT in the first instance and let technology ensure the correct decision was made. England were going to review every out decision at that point anyway.

That is a ridiculous point by Vaughan. The umpire's job is to make their own decision. Not worry about how many reviews each team has left and 'umpires call' permutations.
