As a option what about
Syd exchanging pick 5 & 32 = 2462
For freos 7 & 22 = 2489. .??

Or

5, 25, 32, 44
For
7, 10, 22, 58

134 draft points in their favour.

Means they would cover off a Henry bid at 9 with change.

(I haven’t given this too much thought. Less risk for us and more for them probably).

Don’t get the same points result
4054 points freo
3580 points swans

equiv pick 38

If bid for Tom Green comes at 5, GWS will have to make 1502 points but only have 733 in this draft. Because gws have traded out their 2020 first they a) can't trade other future picks and b) can't have a deficit deducted from next year's first, as they don't have one. So... what happens?
I have no doubt they will trade some of their surplus midfielders in next year's trade period giving them enough points to cover their deficit.

Must have made an error!

Drop off pick 58 and it’s 304 points difference. I’d probably do that anyway. Effectively trading 32 and 44 for pick 10 with an upgrade of 25 to 22 and a slight downgrade of 5 to 7.

(Not sure they would do it!)

Freo are banking on two picks before Henry doubt they will do it.

I am still not convinced that Melbourne will not make a bid for Green at 3. Some say that they don't need another inside mid which may be true but why would they allow one of their competitors a huge legup in getting two top 5 picks this year?
GWS will still match the pick 3 bid as Green. After the discount this equates to approx pick 6. They would not pass up on Green for someone else at pick 4. To me, it makes no sense for Melbourne to not make the bid.
I certainly hope this happens anyway?

GWS would pass and take Jackson or Young then

pick swap hypothetical
Swans p5 + future 3rd for Melb p3
Swans bid on Green.. If GWS match, Swans take next pick (4) and Melbourne basically move from the first live pick to the second live pick
Swans bid on Green.. GWS dont match, Swans get Green, GWS get first live pick (4) and Melbourne basically move from the first live pick to the second live pick
also.. Melbourne p8 (same for later picks if they trade down) doesn't drop a spot because GWS only get one player
So.. Melbourne drop 1 place with their first pick, and gain one place with their second + get a future third.
Swans get the opportunity to bid on Green and if unsuccessful, get first live pick.
Melbourne win.. Swans win.. GWS lose! (infact, everyone after p4 wins - except GWS)

GWS wouldn't have traded any of their picks if their plan was to match for Green. Matching for Green with pick 4 puts them in a much worse position than they were. If Melbourne bid on Green at pick 3 I'll be shocked if GWS match. They've clearly identified someone else in the top 5 who they see they need - and my guess is it's either Jackson or Young

maybe young will be the whitfield replacement when he signs for us at end of 2020

Relax mate. Swans know what they are doing :thumbsu:

Personally I think it is Jackson. I've read many profiles on the kid and there's also a big belief he can play CHF as well as ruck. That's why Melbourne have been linked with him

Either way both are going 3 or 4 you’d assume although if Young goes 3, won’t shock me if Ash is the one at 4. We could grab Jackson at 6 (After the Green bid)

damm hot day at work, cold beer and now very relaxed.. thanks :)
And yep.. the Swans know what they're doing.. better than the BF mob
but.. dont you reckon that would be a great trade? Swans and Demons win.. and beacause GWS only end up with one top 5 pick, everyone after p4 wins

Melbourne would be better off taking Green.
Melbourne could also get a better deal from GWS who would be more desperate to get a pick in than we would to move up. GWS have already given up a lot to move this high, doesn't make sense to stop now. They'll move up to take Jackson I think. Throw another second rounder onto the bonfire, why not?

I think GWS can turn any of last year's rookie mids into half back flankere if they need to. They'll take Jackson if they possibly can.

Actually recon Young is the one they want, hopefully too as he’s the one I don’t particularly want

Yep.. Melbourne bid on Green would be great. It would also stop they're p8 from sliding to p9 (that may be valuable)
I dont think GWS can offer a better deal, they've nothing left to offer. I dont think they can trade out more future picks (not sure about that) but our future 2nd and 3rd is better than theirs anyway.
The deal with Swans is better.. Swans to p3 is essential exactly the same as GWS too p3 - 1 player (not Green) is selected before Melbournes pick The only difference is Melbournes p8 is better if the Swans move to p3

Time will tell I guess. Might be best available if there, but us picking Young tells McInerney, Ling and Stoddart they are dust.
I tend to agree with comments above somewhere Flanders looks like a Melbourne returnee waiting to happen, but then I guess Parker must have early on too. Whether we take him must depend on interviews and sounding out whether he'd like to come.

I'd be interested in who goes out of the team if Flanders is in....

If Jackson comes then I guess he is developing in the gym for a year mostly. (But why is Naismith contracted a further 2 years?)

Dylan Stephens has just as much going for him as Flanders, imo. Originally from Mildura, so has moved once already. Plays inside and outside & senior sanfl this year & well apparently. Is a mate of Will Hayward.
Maybe at pick at 44 Luke Partington could be a viable pick up. Two handy mids, both able to step up into seniors in ‘20. Leaves 25 & 32 to cover more or something else...?

Better not be Partington at 44, sorry just don’t rate him any more than a rookie

I actually wouldn't mind if we reached a bit for Deven Robertson for our first pick. I always feel WA kids get underrated a bit, and he sounds a solid mid in the Parker/Selwood mould. Not a great kick, but i can think of a bunch of great mids who aren't great kicks. If our 5 becomes 6 due to the Green bid, then i hope we consider him.
