Yeah wouldn’t go that far, but the vfl is hardly likely to have better

Realistically Sinkers is a lumbering oversized unco-ordinated diminutive person.

Love him but he would be better waving a banner or flogger in the cheer mob with the Squaddie

Ruck has been the most manipulated and devalued position due to stupid rule changes

It's ridiculous IMO. Watch any Swans game and our mids get basically the same amount of possessions and opportunities at centre bounces than our opponents do. They just ******* squander it nearly every time.

Against the Roos, Goldstein smashed Sinclair but our midfield was on point and we had some really effective clearances to capitalise on our chances.

Against the Bulldogs, Naismith smashed that lanky English in hit-outs, but our midfield was stagnant and flat-footed against a far quicker and far cleaner Bulldogs midfield and their three mates.

It's comical that we still act like the absence of ONE bloke out there should excuse the plain ugly things we do with the footy when we have it.

Speed, poise and can hit targets- a genuine line breaking mid. Assuming he’s fit he would easily be the best target. However GWS will drive a hard selling point.

Again, do you watch him?

Like I said I have big wraps for Caldwell but let's be realistic about where he's at at this stage of his career. He's been a turnover merchant at this very early stage. Doesn't look very comfortable with the level of pressure at the highest level (yet.) He was dropped last week because nearly every one of his disposals was rushed.

I would comfortably take JPK, Parker (who I don't even consider to be a midfielder), Florent, Hewett and Rowbottom over him. But he does have scope for improvement so he'd be welcome midfield depth.

The real ruck art is lost

The circle restricts run and jump I reckon even Maddens suggestion they start outside the edge of the circle would make a difference but you can’t jump toward the opponent and use your body , I get the knee stuff but yeah

You can’t have a third man up, and nominate a ruck like school footy

They wrestle at every boundary throw in, didn’t that used to be a free, can’t hug and wrestle for marks

And no one has the deft taps and gets side on or leaps from opposite leg

You can’t grab out of the ruck as it’s htb instantly

It’s just two tall guys now jumping a few inches, now a super ruck like Gawn Grundy etc tap well but also give you almost another mid , but to me it’s a lost art

You're not wrong, but I reckon a lot has to do with the mids. They make a meal of a lot of brilliant tap work these days. Dion Prestia IMO is the best in the comp at reading a tap.

As for the "rucks as midfielders", I find it abhorrent. They're dumb as rocks and move like awkward dinosaurs yet they think it's a good idea to rove their own ball and win the clearance. Grundy for example gets pumped up because of his work as an extra mid but I shit you not I have never seen an effective clearance from Grundy ever. Leave it to the midfielders FFS.

Ranting here and starting to sound like my pop

He was dropped because there was a bloke called Josh Kelly coming back, and Greene...among others. He'd easily be a top 3 mid at our club. However the price would be the sticking point.

He would've been dropped anyway. Even Bruce was laying into him. He's not as tough as Parker, not as strong as JPK, not as quick as Florent, not as smart as Rowbottom, not as fit as McInerney. He could be a combination of things sure but to say he has things that "none of our mids do" is way off IMO.

No he wouldn’t be in the top 3. Stop bashing the players from the club you apparently support.

Each to their own, aside from JPK and Parker, and neither are probably helping us in our next flag, JPK definitely isn't- stand by my ratings. Rate Caldwell higher than the others personally. Simarly I rate Simpkin ridiculously high for North.

So you rate a good player at north highly therefore your ratings work well? :p

I was really keen on Nick Bryan who got drafted by the Bombers but he is looking like a succession to Bellchambers so it seems unlikely we could get him.

rucks are tricky.. they're an unknown.. to draft one means you need to wait 5 years until they're ready
lets steal someone elses!
