If we recruit Heath Shaw I'll just about give up.

He's finished as a player, always known as trouble (hence Buckley got rid of him), yet we should get him?

Seriously. Are we that desperate?

Someone didn't watch GWS games. Shaw can still play and was clearly in their best 22.

No reason why we can't do with Shaw what Brisbane did with Hodge.

Pagan wouldn’t have had Polec tagging, and he would have had a game plan that benefitted our key forward.

He had 6 disposal in the game where we outmongroled GWS.

We did have a gameplan that benefited our key forward and we finished 12th, 9th and 15th.

For someone that had such blind faith in the previous regime you sure have flipped.

Yeah I thought Heath played pretty well this season, but strikes you as type that could drop off the cliff very rapidly. So long as we go in with open eyes on that basis

He has similar stats to a 29yo that we just delisted

And we brought in a highly regarded footy boss to reshape the list into one that can win a flag, not keep finishing mid-table while one bloke kicks a heap of goals and 15 others collect match payments for being consistently average.

Shaw may not even be here in 12 months but someone's gotta coach while we clean out and rebuild.

Don’t we have an ageing backline though? Who is a young defender?? McKay, EVW????

Tarrant is pretty much the Hodge/Shaw of our backline.

But I wouldn’t be against getting Shaw though because he still has value and having Rhyce and Heath would be a great lol.

* thought he was worth 2.8m
We thought he was worth 4.25m
Carlton came to the the table with 3m
* added on the extra year to make it 3.5m

Half backs with speed and ball use are worth that in the modern game apparently. Things change

His entire family are Carlton mad too according to your (now deleted) post on the BBB thread and he’d love to play there.

Having an early cull has given a whole new complexion to the trade thread this year. Usually posters on here are pumping up the tyres of our whipping boys so that we can trade them off for first round draft picks. This year posters are pumping up the tyres of other clubs' whipping boys so that we can recruit them to fill gaps on our list. Shaw, Cox, Silvagni- why don't we get them all to give us some experience, some height and a famous name?

Honestly mindboggling Robbo sees the logic in this one first.

What is evidently clear in the cull is this club lacks STANDARDS. We have blokes mouthing off at the coach, complaining where they think they should play and a shitload of blokes who spent their careers dicking around and playing for the next contract.

Most of the blokes we cut couldn't show leadership in the crunch. They were soft. Heath would add some bastard to the joint and will scald them on field on behalf of his brother.

They are going to get flogged in pre-season, utterly murdered. And good, because it's been a long time coming.

It might not be Rhyce holding the cup, but North needs another tyrant. How do you think Pagan or RB would've handled Polec or Brown? Jesus they would have killed them. Trading them is the easy way out.
Training over the bye weekend has traditionally been optional, clubs give the players the option to do their own thing. Shaw made the comment in 2019 that when he was at Sydney over 20 attended the club to do their own sessions in his last year there, whilst we had 3 in his first year at north. Standards.

Heath Shaw is not Luke Hodge.

FFS.

2x Norm Smith, 4x premiership winning hero versus a smart ass Collingwood now GWS knob.
The logic is insanity. He’s a clown, he is not a leader. The ONLY benefit is he pulls multiple players out of GWS and brings them with him.. if he isnt capable, he doesnt play for us. And to want to bring him in and trade out Higgins for leadership is psychotic

yeah he did, may have even won a bnf at the cattery, not so good for us. Couple of Schimma's as well. Maybe there's a lot of pressure being the younger brother. Maybe there's something behind that, twins seem to do well, perhaps starting out at the same time competing against each other for success drives them. Scotts, Kings, McKays.

Selwoods, Rawlings, Hills, Danihers..a few younger brothers go alright. Seem to recall some bloke called Garry Abblett had an older brother that played for the Hawks. Suspect more to do with the ability not being equally distributed among siblings.

Wouldn't it have been great if The Duck had an identical twin we could have slotted at CHB...would have been worth an extra flag or two for sure.

Come on. Let’s get it right.

Heath Shaw

1 x Premiership
2 x All Australian
1 x BnF

Maybe when he was younger he toed the flog line and played up. I wouldn’t be calling him that now in the twilight of his career.

I couldn't agree more except to add that we also have Atley on the backline and if required Josh Walker. We have just delisted 3 experienced defenders: Williams, JMac and Pittard to make space to play our young defenders like Perez, Hayden and Bonar. Why on earth would we want to bring in a 35 year old for experience?
