List Mgmt. 2026 Draft and Trade Thread

We don’t have a lot of players coming off contract this year.

Assuming JJ, Lloyd & Cunningham extend, Rampe, Adams & Hamling retire/delisted … it only leaves Armatey and a few rookies up in the air.

Personally, I think we’d be OK with trading Armatey if something good comes back the other way. I’d just hate to see us get dudded on the compo if a trade deal doesn’t happen. Unrestricted free agency is a curse.

Won’t be a trade….

Compo would be end of first at best but probably a second. If we finish top 4… pick at 35 ish….

Pay him the extra $300k and just smooth it out. Or retire taylor and save some $$$

If we do get some academy talents and pies and Carlton shit the bed, we may be able to match 2x mid second rounders, which I think could happen. Which is kinda crazy seeing as though we have zero picks.

I didn’t see the AFL Academy vs Richmond game, but this write-up gives some helpful insight into this year’s likely top end draftees.

I’m pleased to see Heath Mellody played well - as I’ve noted before, I’ve loved what I’ve seen of him at Claremont.

I think and hope we find a way to sign Amartey. The forward line is looking more functional than ever and there's no denying he's a key part of it.

We're going to have to pay a bit but he's been loyal and worked his arse off

We should be fine from the cash end of it. Doubt Rampe goes around again, he'll be replaced by a rookie on less, then there's Lloyd who we delisted then re-rookied this year too. You'd assume the 850-950k would be the vague area. Look people think thats a lot but thats the old 600-650k the cap has gone up massively.

Agreed. This is the best and most functional our forward line has looked since the days of Micky O and BBB.

I agree re the players but there also seems to be better coaching. We don’t have all 3 talls going for the same ball over and over and over.

Having two genuine smalls has helped massively. We have not missed Campbell being out much, as I've felt Rosas has done way more

True in a way in that Rosas has added to Papley who is in great form but Campbell plays higher and could add to both by replacing Corey. The future role for Lloyd could be a puzzle if we're looking for a place for Cootee.

Yeah no thanks in Campbell playing higher, just don't think he'll ever really be a mid. Still have Dattoli and Cootee in spare and the Lloyd decision is tricky, though on form I'd have no issue with a year extension. Campbell is better than Corey but then again he should be depth and it's doubtful he's in the side if Cootee was fit r1

MickeyO and BBB, who always seemed to know where the other was. ROK sticking out his butt at half-forward and clunking mark after mark. Schneider and Monty buzzing around. And then Davo who, on his day, could make the ball sing and dance.

All orchestrated by line coach Horse.

Our midfield of that era might have been a bit blue collar (Goodes aside), but our forward line was a well-oiled delight.

Club needs to be in a position to have a play in the Warner sweepstakes that will start at the end of the year. So might be happy to let a few go this year
We don’t have anyone organic coming through putting any pressure on either… so kinda doubt we will explore offers at the end of this year from West Coast

Some Swans mentions on Gettable today:

Mentioned us as a club who may/might open a list spot for the MSD

Hayden McLean is "very gettable" due to being pushed out of the senior side; Twomey mentioned some recruiters were at Borough game the other week

Both gave a 3 word trade plan for every club

Geelong: Who's after Jez mentioned that with trying to extend Neale, they could look at pairing him with Amartey and/or Mitch Lewis

Sydney: Amartey Party Moving? Nothing else said...

I’d be surprised if both McLean and Armatey were on our list next year.

Likely one, but not both.

Not Shanahan? I think he’s got more upside (as he’s less developed). Plus he’s originally rom this side of the country. Ginbey’s from WA.

I must admit, I haven’t yet seen enough of Shanahan to become a fanboy.

But Ginbey - he’s an absolute gem. Strong as an ox, quick, skillful and incredibly courageous. Could be the bedrock of a defence for 10 years.

The “he’s from WA” thing is interesting. Some WA boys are actually very keen to move east - as they find Perth as dull as dishwater. Others love the place.
