- With James Rowbottom set to play his 153rd game this week, he joins his BFF Nick Blakey as the no. 1 & no. 2 players from that national draft to have played the most games.

We'll moan and groan about our recruiting but that year was a good'n.

I was thinking about it today more so not about the drafts but the sort of ages of players etc, grouping Bice with the 2000 born guys rather than the 2006 born guys or whenever he was drafted.

1999 - McLean, Amartey, Wicks and McCartin
2000 - Blakey, McInerney, Rowbottom, Bice and Jordon
2001 - Warner and Rosas
2002 - Campbell, McDonald, Gulden and Cootee
2003 - Serong, Edwards, Roberts, Warner, Sheldrick

Fair chunk over our list in the relative prime of their careers from drafts that were pretty horrific for the rest of the comp

Yeah but that was considered a super draft.

Sure, but it wasn't considered a super draft because of Rowbottom, McInerney, Wicks or McLean. The former two were so-called "bolters" and the latter two were taken as a Cat B rookie and a pre-season supplementary pick respectively. So we didn't conform to the pundits' consensus yet still came out winners of the "super draft."

SYDNEY SWANS CONTRACT STATUS (Updated 18-FEB-2026)

The minimum list size for each club will be 37, which can be made up of as little as 36 senior listed players and one rookie.

To reach 44, clubs can carry 36-38 senior listed players, four to six Category A rookies, and two Category B rookies.

Current List make up - 37 Senior Listed players, 5 Category A rookies and 2 Category B rookie.

Only reason i said this if he's not getting regular AFL games he might want out and the Tigers badly needing a ruck might be interested and will have a few early picks and we can try and pick up a back up ruck who might be happy to come from a lower level and there are a few good ones.

Yeah, just like Serong with Hawthorn, it wouldn't surprise me at all. They are too talented to be playing VFL.
You'd have to think that many, many teams would be looking closely at both Pistol and McLean. They would both be best 23 at plenty of other clubs.
