Plus he made the mistake of filling the barrel with sand while it was on the boat, making it too heavy to be moved. So he wouldn’t have been able to throw it off the boat. How did it eventually end up in the bush? Does this mean Kallista knew what he had done?
I really don't know, police have obviously obtained phone records between the pair of them but what were they discussing? Maybe he was just talking general tripe to her and she had no idea what he was up to -but that still doesn't explain why she left that little girl alone with him overnight while she stayed at the Riverside caravan park (doing drug deals maybe? )

FFS! She has been in rehab since January!

They might keep her there until the baby's born and she faces sentencing for whatever role she played in that aggravated burglary. She won't get off light, so the baby will be taken off her imo and she'll go back to jail.

Unless, she's very useful for the prosecution against Stein and can do some sort of deal. Looks a bit like they might not need her now though.

The grandmother had full custody and refused her permission to take the little girl to NSW for a few weeks 'holiday' so she went to the 20k a month rehab- November/December (no doubt paid for by Steins) and then applied for access via the courts - she had no intention of getting off the drugs as evidenced by the many who were actually there to be rehabilitated

Will the mental health card be played?
His barrister told magistrate Robert Williams that while on remand in prison, Stein needed supplies of medication which he had been taking in high dosage for many years to treat 'mental health problems'.

The antipsychotic medications are used to treat bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and autism.

What a mess of culpabilities that ended with a murdered child. She might have more charges coming.

This is new, isn't it?

Four days later, Charlise was found dead with a post mortem revealing the cause of death was a gunshot, but police could not find any guns, according to court documents.

A member of the public alerted police to a “suspicious area of disturbed ground” off a fire trail in Mount Wilson on January 30, where police discovered a buried blue tarp with more camouflage, foliage and dirt.

According to court documents, multiple items were found including a BSA .22 calibre bolt action rifle, Winchester Level Action 3030 shotgun, empty magazine clip from the rifle, ammunition, a bag with spent/unused cartridges, and black garbage bags.
... Stein’s fingerprints were allegedly found on the rifle, and ballistics examinations of the firearm identified characteristics consistent with the firearm used in the alleged murder, but investigators were unable to make a definitive comparison.

Rob a friend of the family. Real classy.

From the ABC article, link above. She should have got time for this home invasion imo, must be useful for the prosecution against Stein.

Key points:

  • Ms Mutten was ordered to serve a 12-month sentence in a residential rehabilitation clinic
  • The magistrate rejected her lawyer's assertion she was an "unwilling participant" in the robbery
  • The crime was not related to her daughter's death

The mother of Justin Stein, the man charged with killing his 9-year-old stepdaughter Charlise Mutten, is embroiled in her own legal fight after a critical decision in the Supreme Court of NSW.
Annemie Nathalie Stein appeared in the Supreme Court of NSW on Wednesday in a bid to appeal a decision in the District Court which prevented her from pursuing motor vehicle accident compensation.

Without more detail, it's a best guess to say that Kallista has provided the police with a motive for the murder of Charlise.

The documents also show prosecutors will now allege the alleged murder was domestic violence related, a classification his defence team will contest.

I am sure it is one that will conveniently let her get off light again.

On Thursday, January 13, Justin Stein left the Wildenstein property at Mount Wilson in his Holden Colorado, police say, towing a boat carrying the barrel with Charlise's body inside.

A blue tarpaulin is believed to have been draped over the barrel in the boat.

According to GPS data detectives later obtained from Stein's mobile phone and his ute, he allegedly made the approximately one hour 20 minute journey to Marsden Park Bunnings.
At Bunnings, Stein bought five 20kg bags of sand and made a phone call to Kallista Mutten, police allege.

He then allegedly made a three minute drive to the BP service station at Marsden Park, where he filled up the boat with marine fuel and called Kallista Mutten again.

At some point, Stein must have emptied the bags of sand into the barrel to weight it down.

From the BP, it is at 40 minute drive to Five Dock boat ramp on the Parramatta River in inner western Sydney, where he is said to have failed to launch the motor boat, because it was 'inoperable'.

Stein again allegedly called Kallista Mutton and discussed his futile attempt to float the vessel and is then believed to have made the hour-long 60km drive to Windsor boat ramp...... strange!!

I don't see how Kallista escapes charges.

I don't see how Kallista escapes charges.

Unless Stein told her he'd killed Charlise, she isn't involved.

Why Charlise was with him while Kallista stayed at the caravan park is interesting but atm and given the police's odd language over the couple of weeks they could not get in to interview her, I'm thinking she might have been at the caravan park self isolating with covid. Covid was ripping through NSW at the time.
