on Saturday Melbourne is getting the VFL, while Sunday afternoon the WAFL and SANFL will be on Seven. And of course the AFL finals week 1 in all cities on Seven.

PLAYER MILESTONES:

TEAM STATS
  • Collingwood vs Sydney will be the 300th AFLW match. Collingwood also played in the first AFLW game.
  • The Sydney Swan's inaugural AFLW score was 4.3 (27). South Melbourne's inaugural AFL score was 3.9 (27). In South Melbourne's second game, they scored 6.4 (40).
  • Melbourne have never lost a Round 2 match across the six AFLW Seasons
  • This will be the fourth time Melbourne and North Melbourne have played each other and the first time they have played at a venue other than Casey Fields. All four encounters have been decided by margins less than 10 points.
  • The West Coast Eagles have the opportunity to win back-to-back games for the first time in the club's AFLW history. They have never won in the state of Queensland.
VENUE STATS
  • Alberton Oval will host its first AFLW match for premiership points. It will also be Port Adelaide's first home AFLW match.
  • North Port Oval and Box Hill City Oval will host their first AFLW match for premiership points.
  • Punt Road Oval has had 94 AFLW goals kicked at the venue. It requires six goals to reach 100.
KEY STATS:

  • Tayla Harris (Melbourne) requires two goals to reach 50 career AFLW goals. She would become the fourth player to reach the milestone, following Darcy Vescio (Carlton), Erin Phillips (Port Adelaide) and Cora Staunton (GWS GIANTS).
  • Mathew Clarke's (Adelaide Crows) coaching record in Victroia is seven wins and one loss, with a 87.5% win rate. His coaching record in Victoria is unmatched from coaches that have coached at least five games.
  • Isabella Grant (Western Bulldogs) is set to play in the first game between the Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide in the AFLW. Grant's father, Chris Grant, played in the inaugural Western Bulldogs vs. Port Adelaide encounter in Round 12, 1997.
  • Ebony Marinoff (Adelaide Crows) requires four kicks to become the first AFLW player to register 800 kicks.
  • Karen Paxman (Melbourne) requires five kicks to become the second AFLW player to register 700 career kicks.
  • Emma Kearney (North Melbourne) requires five clearances to reach 200 clearances across her career. She would become the second player to reach the milestone.
  • Anne Hatchard (Adelaide Crows) requires three marks to reach 200 career AFLW marks She would become the second player after Jasmine Garner (North Melbourne).
  • Jess Hosking and Sarah Hosking (Richmond) require 17 disposals to become the first pair of sisters to reach 1,000 combined disposals.

Have a feeling North Melbourne will at least get tomorrow's game on their terms. But accounting for allegiances and the old start-how-you-finish-last-week philosophy, can't go past the Dees.

GWS v BL: although I'm not expecting it'll be too close, it's one I'm particularly looking forward to after the way the Giants moved the ball at times against the Bulldogs.

Even for rusted on AFLW fans, however, it's hard to say where most of the attention will be directed over the weekend, with this being the first round in the league's history to have overlapping matches.
