AFLW Round 2 - 2023 AFLW season

Great goal by Molloy before. What a talent! Who do you guys think is more gifted: Molloy or Scheer? Scheer has a longer leg and better leap, Molloy has the speed and agility. Neither of them anywhere near as talented as Garner, of course, who is blessed with... other stuff (like the ability to read the play cos, ya know, the other two are garbage at that).

Huge grab by Davidson before. What a talent! Who do guys think is more gifted: Davidson or Houghton? Ok that's a dumb one, obviously it's Houghton, but still Dakota is dominating the game in SA today.

Are the forward arcs at North Sydney 50 metres or 50 yards? :) They seem a little small.
Yeah I'd say 45m. Goals are about 125m apart, and the centre square they're going with is definitely 30m.

Maybe it's the smaller confines of North Sydney Oval but Sydney looks like they could be one of the biggest improvers this season, they have been a lot more competitive and if it wasn't for their slow start and missing a couple of gettable goals in the first half, they could have been in with a chance today. They look to be going with the wind in the fourth, but are probably too far behind.

109 points scored by Geelong and Sydney today, compared to 129 points last time they met. Same teams on a smaller ground, resulting in 20 fewer points and 19 more stoppages.

"Play it on smaller grounds" and "wouldn't beat an under 15 boys team"... catchphrases proudly brought to you by idiots.

Will be interesting to see what kind of crowd Essendon get at Windy Hill today. Bit of nostalgia for Bombers fans I would think. Not sure what the capacity is these days though.

Fremantle should really be winning today, given Collingwood's injuries. Of course they looked far from impressive last week, but (and this may have already been pointed out a few hundred thousand times) they've never looked impressive without both Antonio and Bowers lining up.

And in any case, Hayley Miller should be doing a lot more than whatever she's being doing. Sub-15 disposals in 4 of her past 5 matches, only going beyond that with some flat track bully stuff against the Swans.

Wow, appalling stuff from Fremantle. The WA teams looked like the 2 worst in the competition last week imo. Even more so this week. Dockers will get smashed by Hawthorn next week, based on what both have shown so far.

Things looking up for Collingwood. 6 wins (should be enough to make finals again) seems in reach now, especially if Schleicher is back sooner rather than later.

The rest of Fremantle's Season 8 Campaign:

R3 vs Haw - W
R4 vs Ess - W
R5 vs Rich - W
R6 vs NM - L
R7 vs Geel - W
R8 vs St K - W
R9 vs Melb - L
R10 vs Syd - W

That should take them through to Week 2 of the Finals followed by a Premiership in 2024! Who agrees?

Gutsy win by Hawthorn. Particularly happy for Bates and Bodey who were instrumental in the win. Ashmore had a disposals equal PB with 19, on her old stomping ground at that.

St Kilda at least showed a bit in the loss at Windy Hill (and last week's loss was put into clearer context today). But yikes, nightmare few moments from Hannah Priest in Q3 which were hugely costly.

It's a shame that Carlton weren't able to kick more than 1 goal today (bit reminiscent of their 2018 wooden spoon pre-expansion season). Bright side is they have a great chance to bounce back next week against West Coast.

If GWS-Melb is a 0-0 scoreline, this will still end up being the highest-scoring (points per game) Round 2 in AFLW history.

If GWS-Melb is a 0-0 scoreline, this will still end up being the highest-scoring (points per game) Round 2 in AFLW history.
22-99, which makes it comfortably the highest-scoring round ever.

Are you for real??

There is no way Freo are going to beat Richmond and Geelong in Victoria, I'd be surprised if the Tigers and Cats don't view these games as a percentage booster. I'd think that Essendon at Windy Hill would be a loss as well.

I'm certain Melbourne is 49-17 and Brisbane is 46-20-2.

Nah mate, Melbourne's GF win last year didn't count. Umpires. Daisy. Expansion. Et cetera.

Nah mate, Melbourne's GF win last year didn't count. Umpires. Daisy. Expansion. Et cetera.
Not what I heard, the AFLW were so excited about Melbourne Premiership they are talking about renaming the Premiership Cup the Daisy Pearce Cup.

Given the gift wrapped fixture Richmond get for the next 8 weeks, I wasn't even going to acknowledge their turnaround from last Sunday's game, but... "if" anybody is wondering (cough*making excuses for them*cough), yes there's been several cases of teams copping 5-day breaks after an interstate trip.

Firstly, a 5-day break would've been a luxury for the Bulldogs in 2022 S6--multiple 4-day breaks while crossing borders that season. Ellie Blackburn nevertheless led the team admirably through that, and some hero on here still slagged her off (oh whaddya know, it's the same poster beating himself off about 15yo boys in the General Discussion thread).

But aside from that freak season (which was no picnic for the WA teams either):

2019: R6 ADE v GWS, Sunday in SA :arrowright: R7 GWS v GEE, Friday in ACT
2020: R2 ADE v STK, Sunday in SA :arrowright: R3 STK v MEL, Friday in VIC
2021: R8 ADE v WB, Sunday in SA :arrowright: R9 WB v RIC, Friday in VIC

The team coming off the travel and 5-day break won in each instance. There are a few more examples involving an asterisk (such as NM's first fortnight in the comp, although their opponent GWS were also coming off travel and a 5-day break).
