Pick 137
Pick 137 - John "RAY" MARTIN

1638936556309.png RICHMOND SENIORS
Seasons:
1930, 1932-40
Total Games: 159
Total Goals: 135
Honours: Reserves Premiership 1929, Reserves Best & Fairest 1930 Senior Premiership 1932, 1934, Senior Best & Fairest 1934-35, Victorian Representative Team 1933-35 Games 4 Goals 2.

The progression says it all. “Ray” was a champion rover who formed part of a powerful first ruck combination with Percy Bentley and Jack Dyer. Although only small in stature he had a fearless desire to win the ball. Once in the possession of the ball he was a fine pass and dangerous around the goals. His highest individual goal tally was 4 which he kicked against South Melbourne in 1934 and North Melbourne in 1935. He spent two seasons with the Reserves before gaining senior selection in 1930. He then left the club and spent a year with Daylesford before returning to Richmond and establishing himself in the senior side.
He was a member of the 1932 and 1934 Premiership sides, as well as the 1933 and 1940 Grand Final sides. He was Richmond’s best player in the 1934 semi-final win over Geelong. He won the club Best and Fairest in 1934 and 1935 and represented Victoria four times. He also ran equal third in the 1934 “Brownlow Medal”. He was awarded Life Membership in 1940.

Pick 139
With selection 139, the PB74s select EMMETT DUNNE in the forward pocket.

8C679AF0-7407-4FA0-AE2B-BA91EA34D0ED_4_5005_c.jpeg

Emmett was a versatile big man who played in the back-pocket, forward-pocket and ruck. He joined Richmond’s Under/19 team in 1972; however, it took him several seasons to gain a regular position in the senior team after an outstanding junior career. He won the Under/19s Best and Fairest in 1972 and 1973 as well as captaining the Premiership side in 1973.

His 4 goals during that Grand Final earned him the vote for best on the ground. He later developed into a strong marking defender who represented Victoria once. He is one of only nine players to have played in VFL Premiership sides in the Seniors, Reserves and Under/19 Grades. He was a member of the 1977 Reserves’ and the 1980 Senior’s Premiership sides as well as the 1982 Grand Final side. He was awarded Life Membership in 1989. After leaving Richmond, he spent three years at Footscray, including one as playing-coach of their reserves. He then crossed to Springvale in 1987 and was a member of their Premiership side.

He coached the Richmond Reserves between 1988 and 1991, as well as being the club’s ruck coach in 1992 and 1995. A Senior Sergeant in the Victoria Police Force, he is a committee member of Richmond’s Former Players’ and Officials’ Association. In 1996 he was appointed to the AFL Tribunal.

Dunne was one of my toss-ups last pick.

But he's a career pig and workplace bully, so fu** him, he ain't a discoer.

Come on - he was sorry and just misunderstood - don't you believe in restorative justice........

Well said _RT_ - this is serving a public good - the more everyone knows about Richmond the better the world will be!

Pick 134 - Eric Zschech

I wanted to get the hardest to pronounce award....

View attachment 1294135 Eric was a centreman who was recruited from Minyip after winning the Wimmera League Best and Fairest award in 1928 . He was a very fair player who was skillful , stylish and well balanced . He was a fine drop kick and a player who always put the ball to good use. He formed part of a very successful centreline along with Alan Geddes and Brownlow Medallist Stan Judkins on the wings . Together , this combination represented Richmond in four consecutive Grand Finals.

Having joined Richmond in 1929, he played every season until 1935 when the club finished third . A member of the 1932 and 1934 Senior and 1929 Reserves Premiership sides. He also played in 1931 and 1933 Senior and 1930 Reserves Grand Final teams. He also represented Victoria once in 1934. His final game was the Preliminary Final loss of 1935. This guy was elite! His understanding with champion full forward Jack 'Skinny' Titus was legendary, and seemed at times almost telepathic.

Biggest steal ever… should have been top twenty

Biggest steal ever… should have been top twenty

Thank you good sir! I had him on my list for about the last 5 Rounds and got real nervous when some of the boys took his wingmen (Judkins and Geddes). Having Rioli Snr meant that having another prime centre wasn't as urgent for me, but he got more and more valuable as the players got less and less that i just had to jump even if I have him at HFF - what clinched is was that I also have Titus, and those two were legendary waxxers of the ball!

Pick 140
Pick 140 - Liam Baker

Liam Baker is a joy to watch. Crafty, clever, tenacious, skilful, versatile, creative, provides great run and rebound off half-back but dangerous in the forward half too. A personal favourite so I might snap him up before someone else.
Another two time premiership player out of the rookie draft thank-you very much.

Annear began his career in Western Australia with Claremont and played 62 West Australian Football League games over three years before being recruited by Collingwood. He was used as a midfielder and played his best football at Richmond, where in 1984 he finished second in their best and fairest. Andrew Demetriou (subsequently CEO of the Australian Football League from 2003 to 2014) was suspended in that year for striking Annear.

In 1987 he crossed to West Coast who were competing in their inaugural VFL season and was their second most experienced player behind Ross Glendinning. He made State of Origin appearances for Western Australia towards the end of the decade
