Are Australian cricket fans the worst in the world?

.We have extra depth in fast bowling compared to then, but that’s useless in India.

.
Last time we won in India, it was due to pace.

Gillespie 20 wkts @ 16, McGrath 14 wkts @ 25 and Kasper 9 wkts @ 28.

Warne got 14 wkts @ 30, and Hauritz/Clarke cleaned up on a sand pit in the final match.....but for the 1st and 3rd Tests that we won, it was by ripping through their top and middle order with the fast bowlers.

I blame SEN for hyping up the Aussies before this series.

India has been our Everest in the modern era.

Was really crazy reading and hearing all pre series hype, india are probably strongest test side right now we havent beaten them home or away in tests for 9 years, we have one series win in india in 50 years and india havent lost at home to anybody in over a decade how on earth did people expect a close contest?

Maybe part of it is us seeing the cricket team being dominant during the golden generation and experiencing that first hand, that team spoiled us tbh. They raised the fans expectation so high that now being 60 all out or 85 all out is just… mind boggling. Now we sit here about 10-20 years later wondering what happened to the team, the cricket structure here in Australia and why they couldn’t replicate that dominance. Just the cycle of sports…

Agree with this for me at least. Was just a given that we would dominate every team every year and as a kid that doesn't get boring.

Now all i expect from them is they put up a good fight which they didn't on day 3 against India and haven't plenty of times in the last decade. Would like them to at least pretend they care, wasn't impressed with Cummins post game interview.

If we can get Cummins, Starc and Hazelwood all fit and firing, maybe we will be a chance.

Issue is we are dominate in our conditions or similar (NZ / Decent in South Africa) but when conditions don't favour batting eg. Sub continent / England we s**t the bed and can't perform.

Core of this team have been around for some time now and have nothing apart from a boring ass series in Pakistan and a series in NZ.

To be fair, we have been competitive or won away series in the last 5-6 years in England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India. The bad tours were sandpaper tour when it fell apart in 2018 and Pakistan in UAE 2018 when the side were taking tentative steps under Langer without Warner and Smith.

I know we had covid but this also highlights how we like to never play away from home if we can help it.

This series could be joining the ranks of 2013 India and 2016 Sri Lanka as unmitigated disasters.

Still 3 tests to go though.

Put it this way if this Australia team can't beat England this Ashes it will be embarrassing.

We have 3 quicks who are in the prime of there careers with extensive records / experience, experienced off spinner, world class all rounder and what should be a settled batting lineup.

England are actually pretty good. I don’t think we win there either.

Yes but 3rd test was a green top which was created by ground staff to give 2 fingers to BCCI.

Pitches this time no way comparable to pitches of 2004.

India 2023 are also a better side than India 2004.

Also our 2004 side one of our greatest ever, this current on is good to very good, and you need to be great to win in India.

On the original premise of this thread, I think Australia have far more casual followers of the game as a percentage than say England and most other nations, except the sub continent where it’s also a super mainstream sport.

India seem to celebrate their victories far more while we are a bit like the Poms in that we generally only get hyped up in a negative fashion.

I do think for Australia it’s largely down to the high standards set by the golden generation, and pre 90s overseas cricket was even further out of mind than now without it being on tv (ashes series in England aside).

Also the nature of test cricket means sides are often either belting a side or being belted themselves, combination of momentum hard to stop, conditions being super tailored to home teams and lack of any prep for away tours.

that golden generation had just one series win in india though, we were best side in the world from 1995 to 2008 we still only got one win in india maybe bigger issue is aussies have trouble giving credit where its due, for all the talk about doctored pitches india are exceptional on these decks with bat and ball and have been for a long time against many opponents not just us.

And it was victory set up by a katich/clarke/martyn middle order, give the 2017 aussie bowlers that middle order they would have won series as well.

Worth remembering that India circa 2004 had the likes of Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly, Sehwag, Kumble and Harbhajan all in their prime. It was a very good side, and it took arguably the greatest cricket team ever assembled to topple them at home.

If the barmy army is representative I'd say pom cricket fans are actually just booze fans who happen to choose stadiums where there is coincidentally cricket to have a pissup.
No alcohol is permitted/sold in stadiums in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. If we had the same policy in Australia we'd have Shield crowds at test matches.
