Autopsy Autopsy vs GWS - like one of those trains in the subcontinent, far too many passengers

I know for a fact a senior player believes his career has suffered due to being at North. Reckons he would have been a better player at a different club.
What a terrible work ethic. If that player thinks he has the ability to be better.. Then be better! Do more of the hard yards, put in the effort, lift the standards. What a spineless pathetic excuse that is.

Being a better player is definitely within their control as a senior player.
If they were mismanaged, played out of position as a rookie that I would cop.
Screams ‘poor me, I chose to stay and be overpaid, but what about what I could have been if someone else pushed me more?’

This just reflects poorly on whatever senior player this is. You sign up for a national draft, your hat goes in the ring and you are at the mercy of the national system. Could end up anywhere. Make the most of where you do end up, instead of lamenting to the masses that it might've been different. Shit attitude

Allow me to rephrase if you will.

Relative to the sides above us, there is no improvement.

We are in no way competitive with any side in or around the eight. The Brisbane game an absolute anomaly.

Eight wins was my mark of success this year (how shit is that) after two years of complete and utter failure.

We sit at 4.5. Maybe 5.5 to end the year.

Our defence is like a sieve. Our ball movement is generated by individual brilliancy rather that system.

And Griffin Lounge is playing every week.

Club is cooked and I’m so invested I can’t give it up.
After 3, 4.5, 2, 3 and 3 wins in the past five years, if you had 8 wins as your pass mark, then you set an unrealistic goal.

It's a big problem with our list. No one wants to lift the standards themselves. Sheezel is probably the exception. The sooner he is ready to captain the better.

Powell needs a spell. It must be a month since his last decent game and his defensive application (despite high tackle numbers) is generally critically bad.
We don’t give players spells if they’re playing poorly we just keep playing them hoping they’ll come good.

That just reeks of someone who accepts mediocrity and isn’t prepared to do everything necessary to improve, “It’s not my fault I’m shit I’d be better if I played for…”

“I’d be a better kick if I played for Collingwood”
“I’d be a better mark if I played for Brisbane”
“I’d be a better handballer if I played for Western Bulldogs”
“I’d be a better teammate if I played for Adelaide”

How about you just be a better footballer at North and accept that you are the only person responsible for your performance.

My mental health has suffered from following north, at least the players get set up for life doing it. Lucky ****ers
Mine too - maybe we can consider a class action against the club. I will talk to Messrs Sue, Grabbit and Run and get back to you.

What was painfully obvious today was there was one team who has spent most of the last 5 years playing finals together against a team that has a bunch of kids that have barely played 5 games together in comparison. The result was always going to be what it was given they were also playing on their home deck and had been stung the previous week.

The result aside, there were still some small things to like out of today be it individual performances or passages of play that shows what we are capable of when we get things right. I was also pleased to see that they didn't just drop their heads after half time and kept trying. The final margin didn't suprise me in the slightest.

Winning 1/3 of the games is unrealistic? In year three of a rebuild?

Well, I guess if you aim low enough, you’re never disappointed.

We haven't had the "standard" rebuild. We've had to come from an absolute mile back because we massively gutted our list 5 years ago which created a huge imbalance.

There's something to it though.

If you're in a shithouse environment which doesn't drive standards, it's human nature to go with the flow, to match what's around you.

There are psychological experiments proving that people will stop correcting blatantly incorrect calculations if those around them (actors, obviously) act as if the calculations are correct. They'll correct them at the start, but as the reinforcement continues and the person continues to be the only one putting their hand up, they'll cease.

Not everyone is a born leader. Much less footy players. Plenty of them are lucky they're good at footy.

It's on the leadership group, coaches, S&C, to implement those foundational standards, and from what I've seen, we've failed at it, at all levels. Not at all surprised to read that someone thinks they'd have been better elsewhere.

Think about the coaching or gameplan or training drill-related differences that might exist between North and more professional clubs. Nah. Don't buy this criticism at all

Agree with this. The list profile is very imbalanced and we havent had the best availability. Some if our experienced players in Corr, McDonald, Tucker, Larkey, Simpkin are all out due to injury. Doesnt help that the likes of Fisher, Ford and Scott arent really up to standard either. Not to mention guys like Begrman, Archer, CCJ and Goater out for extended stints.

This run over the last few weeks has been all about getting games into the kids and get them exposed to senior footy. As much as we'd like to drop some of the current team, there really isn't anyone decent left in the magoos.

It’s not 22 rounds in.

It’s 3 years of complete inability to defend opposition ball movement.
We're our own worst enemy most of the time. Pretty sure 3 of their first 6 or 7 goals were from shocking errors. On the forward 50 arc we forced a loose ball, LDU fumbled and circled it, they come in clean hands, run it the field and goal. Other 3 i cant remember now. But Colby reaching in while Green ran straight at it, Konst dropped mark/s at least 1 was run all the way for them to goal. Duurs and FOS over committing and allowing their oppo goal side, again AFL checkers and goals. Chom trying to spoil with a back handed wrist flick to force it through, goal. Sure try that stuff when we're 5 - 10 goals up, when we're 4 goals down and they have the run surely play the percentages and punch through the damn thing. Crap kicks into F50 for easy intercept marks and many others. These are just the ones that stick in the memory bank.

Effort, endeavor and even sone skill is there for large chunks but falls away after being punished for self destructive mistakes. Most of them awareness and coaching. Cant we afford video? How can players see these errors and make the time and time again?

On the plus, we're not as far away as many would think imo. We should be at least a 5-7 goal better team if we just fixed up half those dumb face palm worthy errors.

Obviously we have a tonne of injuries as well which isnt helping and im not thinking Jy or LMac who i dont think we miss. More Goater, Archer, Hardemen (today), perhaps even Bergman and George. Larkey and Curtis out hurts. Even CCJ would be better than Darling or Elmo today with the former just being too slow. Yeah the odd nice thing, thats about it. Get Dawson up to speed allowing Chom a bit more freedom with one of Whitlock, Pink or Logue as the third tall along with those younger injured guys back and 1 more year of growth from younger guys we're easily 5 goals better. Tac that on the 5 goals less from brain farts then we're a 10 goal better team.

Maybe, forwards and outside players will always shine more in stronger teams. That said i thank him for sticking fat with us and trying to be part of the solution.
